Other Information
(Instructions provided by my Professor says:
Now, on the left panel of FileZilla (the ‘Local site’ section), navigate to the directory where you extracted the ClassicPress folder. Once inside the folder, the panel below will display its contents. Select all these ClassicPress files and drag them over to the ‘htdocs’ directory on the right side (within the ‘Remote site’ section), which represents your InfinityFree Hosting Account.
)
I tried following the instructions but there is an issue where the Remote site: section does not have a folder. Hoping for your advice on this matter. Thank you.
This is a screenshot of my end of the screen. I am not very tech savvy in this aspect and viewing the troubleshooting methods in the internet or tutorials is a bit confusing.
If the connection is stuck at AUTH TLS, that usually indicates a malicious firewall in the middle that’s blocking you from setting up a secure connection to our FTP server.
You can usually bypass this by using a VPN. Alternatively, you could check this issue with your network administrator or ISP, in case they may be blocking things.
As a very last resort, you could try using insecure FTP connections. However, know that your account credentials and all files will be sent unprotected over the internet, allowing anyone in the path to see everything you do, and copy or manipulate the data.
Use the installed VPN (this is what you would call “downloaded”)
because the browser plugin is only for ports 80 and 443
and you access FTP via port 21 (and others) so it won’t work
You need to install it on the OS so that the entire OS and all applications including the FTP client use the VPN parameters for communication.
If necessary, you can also check your IP (HERE) via VPN and it must be different from your real IP assigned to you by your ISP.
Small update, I did a quick google and found out all the VPN’s I know are pay to use
Although yes, I can use the trial version to hopefully connect, I don’t know if the website I would make would still be up after the trial is finished. This is worrying as sometimes my professors are slow to grade every submission xD
Will check what I can do with the network admin or ISP suggestion although I am not confident on my knowledge I can navigate through such settings hehe
idk how I almost got confidence on the idea of logging into Infinity Free on my phone that can fix the issue haha. It’s most likely my PC’s fault or FileZilla…darn why did my professor not calculate not every student has the same PC haaaizzz
Apologies for the rant. Hopefully will get this troubleshooted. Thank you for the help! Will update in case I get sometime to work
I tried it just now and sadly after toggling the VPN, now it can’t connect to server vs waiting for server. Deleted both Classic Prass and FileZilla and redid every step little by little. I feel I did every step as the instructions wrote but maybe I might be missing something?
Maybe pushing at the wrong angle?
Hmm, that looks even worse. Now it seems it’s not even able to locate the FTP server at all anymore.
Are you able to access websites with the VPN enabled? Because if not, then your VPN connection just doesn’t work, and then of course using FTP over the VPN also won’t work.
If accessing other things over the VPN does work, you could try replacing ftpupload.net with the IP address of the FTP server, which is 185.27.134.11.
Also, just reading back the previous messages:
There should not be anything to redact there. If everything is working, it should always say Connecting to 185.27.134.11:21... there, which is just the IP address and port number of our FTP server, which is public information. If it says anything else, that’s a problem.
I am able to access websites, even my school website as I work, when running the server. I intentionally removed the IP address as I was worried of my location being in those numbers hehe. But during the run, yes, there was an IP address.
