I can not believe this site

Well I normally don’t use sites like this (I use VPS) but I needed something in a pinch to show someone something. When I first logged in I was actually thinking, “this is kinda nice” and was actually considering paying to get a premium package. Well, everything went down hill fast. None of the SSLs worked, there’s no way to troubleshoot anything, where is [email protected]?? You have a forum, ok fine. I never could get sites to load. DNS worked fine. Hell, if you went to the http instead of https it loads the apache page so there you go. I just had it and wanted to delete the account and move on with life. But wait, there’s more. You can’t even delete the account. You have to let it sit here. For how long, who knows? I am formally requesting that my information be removed from this site. I am not interested in support to troubleshoot anything. I’m not going to leave nasty comments somewhere. I just want my account gone. I am within my legal right to ask that you delete any and all data you have from me. As per the laws that you claim to follow I would like a copy of the data that you collected on me once the account has been deleted.

Just so you know. People do not like this. If you are going to retain the data, just retain it privately and let users delete their account. That’s all the law is asking you to do. I am very unhappy with this experience and you couldn’t pay me to use this platform. Please delete my account and kindly let me go.

Thank you

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble with InfinityFree.

You can delete a domain, so nothing is hosted, and self suspend the account. It will then be deleted after 20-60 days (I think, Admin please correct me if i’m wrong). Do do this, go into account settings, and select Deactivate account:

Once that’s done (and the hosting account deleted), you can then delete your dashboard account without any issues.

This is inline with both the UK Data Protection Act (since IFastNet who provide the infrastructure are UK based) and the EU’s GDPR.

As stated on the deactivation page “Due to legal obligations, InfinityFree cannot delete accounts early under any circumstances. Please do not request exceptions.”

Kind Regards

What data do they have on you? My site’s been on here for a few years and they don’t have any information on me. They also have no desire to hold onto any information at all if someone leaves as it all takes up space and costs money, so when things go they’re unrecoverable.

Hello and welcome to the forum! It is a bit saddening that you made so much effort only to express much frustration. Though we wish you to stay, explore and tweak around, hang with the community, meet some friends probably, it seems there is nothing more we can do to change your mind. You seemed dead set to move forward in a new direction without us.

If you happen to still lurk around in the forum, would it take much effort to reread what you have written? There must have been a misunderstanding or misinformation.

Would it be possible to cite where have you read that email address? There are several publicly listed emails used in this site. But I can’t find it. The Contact Us section doesn’t list it. I rechecked my own emails, can’t find it. I used Google I can’t find it. If you used that email and can’t get a response, possibly because no one actually uses it.

However, that doesn’t mean support is unreachable. Forum and community support are normal types of support for free online service providers. Would it be fair to ask premium-level one-to-one support for someone doing community service voluntarily?

If there are technical aspects of the site that you are having trouble with, be sure to include links, screenshots, error messages (in case you didn’t skip these already before making the post), so someone more knowledgeable can look into it . Technical problems are precise, we can’t solve anything in an ambiguous language. Oh wait, you are working with VPSes already. I’m sure all online services paid or not have forums and knowledge base as part of their platform. A quick search into these pages could work wonders. If you tried everything already, you can post a new topic and kindly ask for help and state why a particular solution didn’t work for you. All in all, you are not only helping yourself but also others that share the same sentiments as you. Or other people in the future.

Regarding your account deletion, this might help to clarify some things including a word from the admin:

That said, you are no exception. Everyone who wishes to be deleted has to go the same process. It is within the EU and British laws and seems sensible. I read:

and there is no conflict. Can you specifically say who and where this “People do not like this”? EU ratified it. UK ratified it. So who are these people?

That said, I am not affiliated to IF like much everyone else here. My words should be taken with a grain of salt. Any mistakes expressed are mine and mine alone, and an admin can only take the official stand. This might not be a pleasant experience to you, but let us make a concerted effort to make it worthwhile and nonetheless productive for improvement. Till next time!

Respectfully,

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like our hosting. Based on the description of the issues provided, I’m confident that we could have helped you solve them had you given us the chance to do so. The Apache error page you mentioned is actually quite telling and points to a category of issues that are typically straightforward to resolve.

But since you say you’re not interested in addressing the issue, I won’t pry further, as much as it pains me to see you leave over what I believe is an easily fixable problem.

Regarding your account deletion request, accounts are deleted automatically 20 to 60 days after deactivation. As you discovered, immediate account deletion is not possible due to abuse prevention measures.

We maintain this policy out of our commitment to transparency. We will never provide you with a “delete” button that claims to remove your data while secretly retaining it. The information you can see in your client area represents all the data we have about you. When we say your account will be deleted, it will be genuinely deleted.

This is precisely why we don’t offer the approach you suggested of retaining data privately while showing the account as deleted. Deletion and retention are contradictory, and we choose genuine deletion over the illusion of it. Once your account is deleted, there is no data remaining to provide a copy of.

Your account will be automatically and permanently removed within the next few months with no further action required from you.

Can you add a delete button so we feel better? Or, is that too placebo?

That would be misleading. which is exactly what admin (and GDPR laws) want to avoid
