Hello there,
I am having trouble connecting the above mentioned domain to a custom domain which I bought through Strato.
I understand that I have to add infinityfree’s DNS name server to the domain-provider (in this case Strato). If I do so, I get the following error message from Strato: “An error has occurred. The specified name server is not responsible for this domain.”
Does anyone know, why this is happening and what to do about it?

While a free subdomain is a great way to get started, a website looks a lot more professional with a custom domain name. Fortunately, you can register your own domain name with an external company (like NameSilo ) and use it on InfinityFree.
There are multiple ways you can add the domain name as an account. You can create it as a new account or add it to an existing account.
Before you can add a domain name to your account, you need to point it to the InfinityFree nameservers first. However, some domain providers show an error like this when trying to change the nameservers:
DNS Query Refused
If that happens, your registrar will tell you that the nameservers must be configured first.
Before you can add your domain name to your hosting account, you need to point it to the InfinityFree nameservers.
The nameservers of your domain name are a setting at your domain registrar to allow you to host a domain name with a different provider. So you need to change these settings at the site where you bought your domain name. Most registrars have different panels and we can’t cover them all in this guide. For this guide, we’ll use NameSilo as an example.

I don’t think you can host your .de domain with us.
Even though you can point the domain name to our servers, our servers don’t know which account and website that domain name is related to. To do that, you need to add the domain to a hosting account. And to add the domain to a hosting account, you must change the nameservers of your domain to point to our servers first.

You can transfer your domain to someone else, and set your nameservers on a provider that allows it.
