Stuck on the 'Add Domain' page

Hi, I have just registered with infinityfree.com and established a free account and a free domain. Now I am trying to host a .com domain I own, that is at present forwarding to an other domain.

I am on the page

where it says: Your domain must be verified using one of the methods below.
I have choosen ‘Nameserver Validation (recommended)’ and clicked on ‘Add Domain’. The ‘Add Domain’ button looked engaged for a short time but nothing happened. I clicked it a couple more times, but still nothing.

Hello, and Welcome to the InfinityFree Forum @Infreenity!

Please refer to the topics/guides below:

If you’re still having this issue, can you please share which domain you would like to which account so I can try to reproduce it?

Thanks for the welcome. I am aware of the concept of rtfm. And yes, I have read the pages you linked to. But I’m afraid they went over my head.

I have made websites in the past and i have somehow managed to host them, but the hosting environment has always been like astro-physics to me.

Maybe I should rephrase my original post:

Starting in my Account > Overview . My free domain is listed there and I click on the ‘Add Domain’ button.
Next page: ‘Which type of domain would you like to add?’ Subdomain/Custom Domain — I click on the ‘Add Custom Domain’ button.
Next page: ‘Which domain name would you like to add?’ I enter the Custom Domain Name and select ‘[your domain]/htdocs (new directory)’ — I click the ‘Verify Domain’ button.
Next page: I click on ‘Nameserver Validation (recommended)’. It folds down and shows ‘Current Nameservers/Desired Nameservers’. — I click on the ‘Add Domain’ button.
The button greys out (as if it was doing something) then returns to its original state. But nothing happens.

And this are my questions:
A) What is not happening?
B) What should be happening?

Thanks for your reply. I would like to add rfbphotography.com to if0_40785958

Thanks for sharing the domain and the detailed description. I have just tested it and I see the same problem.

When you click the Verify Domain button, it should send a request to the backend which should then check your input and try to add the domain to your account. Depending on whether the input was OK and the operation was successful, it will give feedback on the operation.

In this case, it seems that the request to the backend is sent, but the feedback is not shown in the frontend. Specifically, you should see an error message saying:

Your domain is not yet pointing to our nameservers ns1.infinityfree.com and ns2.infinityfree.com.

The reason is simple: your domain is not using our nameservers. The next step is to go to your domain name provider (Blacknight), and change the nameservers for your domain name.

Thank you very much. I managed to create the space and upload a file.

Would it have been possible to create a folder first with the domain name in the File Manager > upload the files > and then point the nameservers to infinityfree ?

If the folder where the domain is going to be pointed to is already present on your account, then your website will just start serving the website from that folder.

However, note that even then, you’ll still need to add the domain name to your hosting account after changing the nameservers. Adding a new domain name involves adding configuration in many different systems. Creating the website folder is one of the things that happens, but far from the only thing.
