Are you allowed to sell your here registered Subdomains (eg. 00.ct.ws) ?
No, this is not allowed. Resale of our service is not allowed in the first place, and this also applies to selling subdomains.
Then there is also the fact that you don’t own the subdomain, and don’t get full control over it. And if we find that people contact us because they don’t have nameserver controls over the subdomain they bought, then we’re going to come after you for scamming these people.
Subdomains are an excellent option if you want to build a website but don’t want to purchase a domain for it, and buying a subdomain defeats that point.
thanks! uhm… Does giving it for free count as sell
is there a limit tho?
The TOS specifically says
“You will not re-sell or provide the Services for a commercial purpose, including any of InfinityFree’s related technologies, without InfinityFree’s express prior written consent
”
I’m not a lawyer, but considering it says “provide”, it sounds like giving subdomains away for free may still qualify if it’s in addition to something you’re selling (anyone who knows better please feel free to correct me).
But what purpose would that serve anyway? Other people can sign up for InfinityFree for free. And InfinityFree’s subdomains can’t be used in other places, so unless you’re willing to give all of those people access to your account to host a website (in which case the hosting account itself would hit the various daily limits very quickly) giving subdomains you make to anyone would be pretty pointless. Not to mention there are free services for subdomains that can be used for your own projects, such as No-IP, FreeDNS, and Duck DNS.
@e303mcX maybe a myownfreehost account would be more suited to your needs ?
We provide free subdomains for people to use to host their website for free. We don’t give them out so people can hoard them and ransom them off.
So please delete all subdomains you don’t use or intend to use yourself.
thank you! But they are for me.
There are over 20 subdomains in that picture, and they’re all for you? What do you use them for?
i claimed them.
Please don’t hog subdomains to yourself that you are not planning to actually hosting a website on in the near future. That is just rude and inconsiderate to other users who are using the service in the intended way.
For you to use, or for you to hold onto at the expense of others?
There are A LOT more. More than was supposed to be possible even. There was a bug that’s fixed now, so you’ll see that you’re now unable to add more domains to the account.
That much is obvious. It doesn’t answer the question of what (legitimate) purpose you have to have such a ridiculously large number of domains.
Ok. Please give me the part in the Terms of service that makes this illegal. And tell me how much is actually legal.
Thx
Isaak Vogel
PS:
I have an copy of the terms of service, just in case, made before my Account got locked.
Legally, nobody even has to give a reason. If you actually read the terms you made a copy of, you’ll see that is says that InfinityFree can suspended any account for any reason at any time, with or without cause.
Registering many subdomains is not illegal. However, most accounts which have a large number of domains registered do not do such for legitimate purposes. Creating subdomains in bulk for spam purposes is probably the most common reason.
Don’t mistake that for an accusation, I’m not accusing you of spam. However, registering hundreds of subdomains is very suspicious because no single person can reasonably maintain hundreds of websites.
So I have asked you in your other topic for what purpose you are registering so many subdomains. Which is a question which so far you have refused to answer. Which is all the more reason for us to be suspicious.
The only reason you have announced so far is the desire to snag subdomains for the purpose of reselling them. And our terms of service do specifically ban resale of our service.
You will not re-sell or provide the Services for a commercial purpose, including any of InfinityFree’s related technologies, without InfinityFree’s express prior written consent.
I haven’t stated it as clearly as I have before, but I will state it clearly now: I will try to get your account reactivated if you can convince me that you have registered so many domains for a purpose that fits regular website hosting needs. And so far, you have given me zero reason to believe that.
Additionally, please note the following:
InfinityFree reserves the right to suspend or terminate any hosting services if a website/hosting service consumes excessive server resources or effects other websites / hosting services on a shared or clustered hosting server. Excessive resource usage can constitute any form of server usage calculated and determined at the discretion of InfinityFree. InfinityFree reserves the right to suspend service at any time without prior notice if or when the health or normal running / performance of a service is effected / degraded by a website or hosting service.
At our discretion, I determine that registering a very large number of subdomains constitutes consumption of “excessive server resources”.
So this suspension is backed up by our terms of service.
