New website FTP permission denied

I’m trying to upload content for a website via ftp. Whatever I do I get a permission denied error.

Filezilla log:

Status:	Resolving address of ftpupload.net
Status:	Connecting to 185.27.134.11:21...
Status:	Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status:	Initializing TLS...
Status:	TLS connection established.
Status:	Logged in
Status:	Retrieving directory listing...
Status:	Directory listing of "/" successful
Status:	Starting upload of Empty file
Command:	PASV
Response:	227 Entering Passive Mode (185,27,134,11,135,99)
Command:	STOR index.html
Response:	553 Can't open that file: Permission denied
Error:	Critical file transfer error

The only directory visible under “Remote site” is “/”. Permissions on it are 777.

The site was created using a custom domain rather than a free subdomain.

Use filezilla client app

The logs are from Filezilla, that’s what is being used.

@westburyfdc welcome to the forum! Are you uploading the files to the correct folder (htdocs)?

There is no htdocs folder. The root folder is empty.

Yes, I was using filezilla. I’ve also tried a Linux command line ftp app and the cpanel/vpanel file manager with the same result.

There should be one. If there isn’t, try to create it.

If it doesn’t allow you to do that, perhaps you are affected by this:
