Hosting Volumes vol7_? file missing/out of date - write/upload errors

Since the 3rd of October, accounts on hosting volumes with names that start with vol7_ may be experiencing problems with their files.

These volumes are currently being migrated from a PHP 7.4 server to a new PHP 8.2 server. To make this work, all website data has to be copied from one server to the other, and this copy is not yet complete.

Which components are affected by this issue

Accounts on hosting volumes that start with vol7_ appear to be affected by this, such as vol7_5, vol7_6 and vol7_7.

What issues may you see

If your website has not been migrated at all, you will see these issues:

  • FTP and file manager showing no files or directories.
  • Uploading or creating files does not work, usually showing some kind of permission error.
  • Websites show a 404 error page.
  • Opening Softaculous doesn’t work, showing various errors.

If your website has already been migrated, you may see that the state of your files are rolled back some time, up to a few days. The changes made since then are still on the old server, and will be copied after the initial copy is done.

When will this issue be resolved

The data transfer from the old servers to the new servers is still in progress. Over the next 24 hours, any empty accounts will be automatically restored with the files as they were. Any changes that were made before but have not yet been copied will be restored in the next few days.

What can you do to fix this

Please just wait for the data transfer to complete. There is nothing you can do to speed it up, and making changes now will only result in the migration taking longer to complete.

We are aware of the issue and are doing our best to get this resolved as soon as possible.

I completely understand that this may cause confusion and you will have additional questions. I am happy to provide any information I have to help you.

However, to keep the contents of this topic clean, clear and concise, I ask that you carefully read the Outage Communication Rules before posting.

In a nutshell:

  • Please keep the posts about the outage in this topic, and all posts not about this outage outside of this topic.
  • Please post relevant questions only that have not been answered yet. It may be compelling to ask obvious questions like “when will this be fixed”, but basic information like that will be put in this message as soon as we know it.
  • Please carefully check the known symptoms and affected components.
    • If you are on the affected components, you are almost certainly affected by the outage. If so, please refrain from simply stating you are affected, it does not help get your service back up faster.
    • If you are not on the affected components but do experience all of the symptoms, please say so below so we can check if our list is incomplete.
    • If you do not experience all listed issues and are not on the components that are known to be affected, the issue you are experiencing is most likely not related to this outage. If so, please create a new topic in the Hosting Support category and describe the issue there.
  • If you say you are affected by the outage, please always include your website URL. I can’t check if you are affected by the outage if you don’t say which of your websites is affected.

Posts that do not follow these rules may be deleted without warning. This is to help ensure that all the relevant information is easily available to everyone reading this topic.

Just a little update about this:

The data migration is still in progress. However, due to instability on the old servers, the migration is a lot slower than it should be. It may still take a few more days for the remaining accounts to be copied over.

As far as we can tell, the integrity of account contents is not impacted. So please have patience and rest assured that you’ll soon have access to all your files again and your website will just work.

Time for another update!

The initial migration has been completed and almost all accounts have been migrated. However, an issue was found that caused an unknown number of accounts to not be migrated correctly yet. This issue has been addressed, and we expect that this issue will be fixed today, if it hasn’t been already.
