Hi - i have bought XY at namecheap, and used infinitefree to get a simple page hosted. Some info for you to help debug:
my index.html Page + logo are loaded into the htdocs folder, and I can see it without issues when i try http://bv.infinityfreeapp.com/?i=1
My namecheap settings are as follows : A record @ 185.27.134.127 and CNAME www mydomain. 185.27.134.127 is what I see in my infinitefree dashboard as the “website IP”
When trying mydomain in chrome, the page doesn’t load, and I get an ads page instead. And my antivirus is sending so many alerts on that page…
It’s been 20 h or so. I know I am supposed to wait up to 72h for the site to be seen, but what I see is NOT what is suggested in the help center :
"Instead you may see:
An advertisements page, with ?z being added to the URL.
An error saying “This site can’t be reached”
I tried to update the nameserver on namecheap, but they are asking for a IP address, not sthg like ns1.infinityfree.com. Copilot told me that the correct IP address is for ns1 : 45.79.148.3, so I used that.
Then I tried to register the domain on hosting account as you suggested. It’s asking me to validate, preferred option is with ns infinityfree.com which does not seem to work (see above), so I used the bottom method (CNAM validation).
It’s done on namecheap, but nothing is working so far. The validation is not captured and I have the ads page back.
Apologies for my (lack of knowledge). I tried to follow your instructions.
I followed the link you sent, and tried to do what is needed. They use an example (spaceship) with a registar that accepts ns1infinityfreecom and ns2infinityfreecom as nameservers. Namecheap does NOT allow for these (or at least I couldn’t find where to add these in), and is asking for an IP address instead. That’s where i used the IP address given by copilot instead of ns1infinityfreecom and ns2infinityfreecom (dots omitted as I cannot post too many links as a newbie on this forum)
Is this where you feel I don’t follow what you shared ?
On your case you might have to follow these instructions, changing the nameservers from Namecheap BasicDNS to CustomDNS before putting our nameservers in:
That page you showed on your screenshot might be the one for glue records instead.
I was indeed in the advanced DNS section, not in the Domain DNS section, I think that’s the reason. I was then able to change the nameservers to ns1.infinityfree.com and ns2.infinityfree.com.
