Their recommendation was to manage the email records through infinityfree itself. how do i go about doing this

InfinityFree supports adding MX and SPF records to addon domains. However, the less disruptive way forward would be for you to add your domain name using CNAME verification instead. That way your nameservers can stay set to GoDaddy’s, and you don’t risk disrupting your Office 365 service.
