WordPress has been updated! Next and final step is to update your database to the newest version.
The database update process may take a little while, so please be patient.
[Update WordPress Database]
I did NOT update Wordpress, but apparently InfinityFree did, and now I cannot get into Wordpress. It has NEVER been set to Auo-Update, someone Manually had to do this! And Infinity & ME are the ONLY Ones with Access.
There are also updates that I did on my site (last time I worked on it) to the index page within Wordpress that are now gone because of all this.
And I have 2 plugin folders with the wrong permissions that I cannot change; therefore, I cannot back them up, I cannot access them, and I cannot change them to the correct permissions even though I am the owner, AND I Cannot Swap them Out with what I had previously backed up… meaning, they’ve always had the correct (accessible to me) permissions on them prior to InfinityFree Moving, Updating and Changing Everything!
There are changed dates on folders/files in comparison to what they were prior to InfinityFree moving, updating the changing things without my knowledge… so it’s a definite they did something, and now it’s half broken, to say the least.
What Did InfinityFree Do??? And how can I speak directly to them about these issues???
I can almost grantee (and would probably bet money) on the fact that InfinityFree did not update that. There is no system in place to mess with users websites.
That said, I’m still not sure exactly what your problem is, just renter your database password and you should be good to go!
I’ve had similar problems with wordpress on other platforms (which is why I stopped using it). I think the issue you’re facing is probably a wordpress issue not an Infinity Free issue.
End of the day, there would be no reason for Infinity Free to mess arround with users websites. All it would do is drive users away from the platform, and so they’d lose out on ad revenue, and potential commision for upsells to Premium Hosting with IFastNet
By default, WordPress auto-updates. I do recommend to leave it on, WordPress set this as a default for a reason. And the reason is mainly that people are negligent with applying updates, which exposes their websites to known security problems.
We didn’t update your website. Some automatic update process did, which is probably WordPress itself. It might also have been Softaculous, our script installer that can also automatically update your website software for you if enabled.
Usually, the automatic upgrades should be seamless, but they can go fail to complete successfully and require manual intervention to update.
We gave you hosting that can run WordPress, and gave you a script installer along with it you can use to install your website and keep it up to date. Everything else is your website and your configuration.
And no, there is no direct contact point. I see no reason to discuss one-on-one with you why your website auto-updated.
There are some unfortunate issues that can result in you locking yourself out of your own files. However, the solution is not to then just never update your website. Keeping your website updated is very important to keep it safe and stable. If that happens, you could either ask us to fix ithe permissions for you, or migrating the domain to a different directory or hosting account to circumvent the inaccessible files.
I’m about to migrate my website to another hosting provider entirely, because the more I try to straighten things out that I did not mess up, the more server-side problems I run into! And I cannot get direct help from the people running the servers, so I’m stuck and it’s pointless to be here.
My folders having the wrong permissions is absolutely nothing to do with that I did! And it has absolutely nothing to do with my choice in not updating Wordpress, or my choice in turning off Auto updates to Wordpress.
So, today, I am still unable to edit those 2 folders, and since the other day, my main wordpress folder has changed and I am now unable to upload to or edit it’s contents, but I can upload and edit it’s subfolders… go figure!
Apologize for the rant, because I realize that’s all it is There is nothing my peers here can do… and being unable to get direct help from Infinity, equals no help for me.
@ Frank419: Like I said, Wordpress has never been set to auto-update… meaning, I do not allow anything to auto update on it’s own.
And someone at InfinityFree has most certainly changed my files. I have files missing, and 90% of my site’s data was dated 2018, and now the majority is set to 2025, and I haven’t been able to work on my site in almost a years. So you tell me who did it then???
And it really doesn’t matter cause I’m really done with InfinityFree! Gotta know when to walk away!
Unfortunaitly you’re getting the service and support that you pay for. This is free hosting. If you want 1-2-1 support, you would expect to pay for that privilage.
Given that the only member of Infinity Free staff is Admin, and he’s said he didn’t I highly doubt that. It is possible that the recent platform update to PHP 8.3 has broken a few things. Particularly if your wordpress install wasn’t up to date, and was relient on an older PHP version.
Best of luck with your new hosting provider. I genuinly hope you find a service that meets your needs
What server side problems are you running in to? I’m happy to try to help you with them.
I’m here, and I’m happy to help you. And that’s closest thing you can get to direct access.
But then please do describe the issues you have and give us the chance to address them. Just complaining that you’re not getting any help with your issues when we don’t even know what the issues are isn’t fair.
You’re not stuck and being here is not pointless. However, complaining how you’re not getting support when you haven’t even asked for is pointless and won’t help you.
Looking at your account, I see there is a WordPress 6.8 archive in there, dated the 15th of April. If this archive was extracted on top of your existing website, it would result in the exact behavior you saw.
But I have no information to see who put that file there.
But I will stress again that we never make changes to your website, unless of course you specifically ask us to. We don’t do any kind of automated upgrading when we forcefully upgrade your website software without your knowledge.
