What does the SSL certificates page currently show? Did you setup the required CNAME record already? Does the client area say it is setup correctly?
The Free SSL Certificates tool can take care of a lot of heavy lifting regarding obtaining and installing an SSL certificate, but it’s not quite fire and forget. The tool will guide you through the necessary steps, but you do need to go through them. So if you’ve just been staring at the list of certificates waiting for the status to change, then know that it never changes unless you make it change.
