How to use a Sub domain for existing domain on infinityfree

I’m just wondering if it is possible to host a sub domain with infinityfree?

I have a domain registered with neamcheap: Nutty’s Kitchen with the site hosted on GitHub servers. It seems that I can set up subdomains over on namecheap, but, I have to be honest, I haven’t a clue as to what I would need to do over here on infinityfree.

If someone could give me a little guidance, I would be more than thankful.

If I need to provide more info about the site / servers, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

You can, but not directly. First, you’ll need to add the base domain (nuttyskitchen.co.uk) to your account as an addon domain. Fortunately, you can do this by verifying it with a CNAME record, so you won’t have to change your nameservers or disrupt your other site.
How to add your domain with CNAME verification
Once that’s done, you can create the subdomain in your client area or control panel, then create a DNS record at Namecheap; specifically an “A” record with the same subdomain, that points to your site’s IP address, which can be found on the “Account Details” screen in your client area.

I really appreciate this information. Thank you!

Just flicking over How to add your domain with CNAME verification

This looks pretty heavyweight stuff, so I’m going to have to take some time to digest it before doing anything! There’s two things I want to avoid:

  • disrupting the existing site ( I want this to stay where it is for now)
  • associating nuttys kitchen with my personal account on here

So, I’m guessing that I should set up an account for the owner of nutty’s kitchen here on infinityfree and then proceed from there?

The nice thing about the CNAME verification is that it has no impact on your current website. You can add the CNAME record (which is a random value and is extremely unlikely to overlap with any existing configuration) and add the domain to your account without any impact to your website. Only instead of then pointing the base domain to us, you create the subdomain in our panel and point just the subdomain to us.

And yes, it is substantially more complicated than just changing nameservers. But the simple answer is that hosting different subdomains with different hosting providers is always going to involve custom DNS work.

If you already have a website on here, it definitely doesn’t hurt to setup a separate hosting account for your new site, as long as you’re within the 3 account limit.
