Closing accounts after 60 days!

I have a little bit of traffic on my site. But now I learned that Infinityfree will CLOSE MY ACCOUNT AFTER 60 DAYS if I don’t have enough traffic?!! When I’m just starting up??

This is cruel. I wonder how many people know about this policy of yours — to pull the rug out from under them when they are just beginning to have traffic. I can’t believe this!

Please read my reply in the 20k topic I just gave you — apparently you completely misunderstood how does this system works.

Also, the traffic requirement is just 5 hits per month. Which usually just require 1 pageview.

Thank you for explaining that. Jesus you scared the hell out of me. I just have a little site where I test my html & php pages — nothing like an enterprise site with millions of customers. I would hope a little site like mine would be welcome here. I’m not doing anything provocative, just learning!

If you do have one then it’s probably already suspended here due to too many traffic :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh good! I’m just a little site!

Did I read this correctly?! You’re deleting my account in 60 days???

Yes, we do. We delete your accounts after 60 days AFTER YOU HAVE MANUALLY DEACTIVATED THEM.

If you don’t want your accounts to be deleted, just don’t do deliberate things that will cause their deletion.

Your accounts can be deleted after sometime, yes.

But apart from what Admin said, your account also get automatically deleted if you are not using your account at all. (Which should fit the situation here better.)
This is because that nobody wants to waste server space to something that was not used. People only want to give server space for people actually using them.

But what if it takes awhile for me to build up interest?! Surely you would not penalize me in this fashion!!! OMG. I thought this was going to be a great new home for my little html tests (I’m learning html) but now you’re telling me that this is a 60-day cutoff . . . because I don’t have traffic???

YOU JUST RUINED THIS SITE FOR ME.

When we say your site don’t have traffic, we mean it. Which means that even you are not testing anything on it.
If you are testing random stuffs on it, then you are fine, because your site have traffic.

What’s more, there’re will be 3 emails straight before the site gets deleted. We still hold the account for somewhile before we delete them, and in that period, if you say “Yep I’m still using this account” by clicking the reactivation button, we’ll happily restore everything back to normal.

Oh God you scared the hell out of me! I was just going to replace my files on the other site with “We moved to a great new host — Infinityfree.com!” — when I read this. Jesus don’t scare me like that.

Sit in a quiet place, let your muscles relax a bit and then try to take some deep breaths, optionally drink some cool water and let yourself to chill.

I merged in the posts from the 20k topic to keep everything centralized. I did forget to tick the box to preserve chronological ordering, so the exact order of posts is a bit of a mess now. Sorry about that.

Your accounts will not disappear out of the blue with no warning. If your account does not get enough traffic, it will first be suspended for ~20 days, during which you can reactivate your account at any time with a single click and no data loss.

We’ll send you multiple email reminders if your account is suspended for inactivity. It’s still good to keep a backup of your website in case you miss these emails somehow.

So where does the 60 day come in? If your account is suspended for any other reason (including abuse or manual deactivation), it can take up to 60 days for the account to be fully deleted.

All in all, you can keep using your account for as long as you want, as long as you are actually using it. Even if it’s just you checking it. You’re not required to have an active website, we just don’t want to waste our server space on websites that are abandoned and forgotten.

I don’t get much traffic owing to the nature of my content. I’m learning html and php and I put up my little creations for others to copy and learn with me. In his context I will keep the zip files on the old server since your policy is to not allow downloads. All that will be posted on my site are the text files of these little pages of code.

And on each page I will include a bit of advertising for Infinityfree because I’m grateful you have offered me a home. :grinning: It’s the least I can do. I’m really impressed with this site, including this forum. But I do get traffic, on average 1 hit per day on my Table of Contents. I expect that will increase once I get into PHP. You’re welcome to visit my toc for an idea of what I’ve been producing here. I do think you should disclose your policy more conspicuously however. It’s kind of important wouldn’t you agree?

We have been disclosing this from the very beginning.

ToS, Section 6:

6. ACCEPTABLE SERVER RESOURCE USE
…You acknowledge that InfinityFree may, in its sole and absolute discretion, suspend or terminate your Account if we consider it to be inactive for an extended period of time…

I believe you said “I agree to the Terms of Service” when you are signing up. If you said it without actually reading the ToS, then I don’t know who should be responsible for this.

I believe I used the word “conspicuously” — as in, not buried in the tos. No matter, I know it now.

I don’t think I’ll agree with you in this one. For example we place about this limit in some apparent places. Then someone else says “Hey I just got suspended for X but you didn’t put it in the front”, so we added that to the front. And in the end, we added so many items that it’s just a copy of the ToS.

Then why didn’t we just direct people to the ToS? Yes, the ToS is long, but that didn’t entitle you with the ability to completely skip it.

We’ll agree to disagree. I consider grounds for terminating the account to be something you should state explicitly outside the tos and in the tos. Being new here you scared the hell out of me with this. I just think . . . well you know what I think. It’s your company and you have every right to run it as you see fit. Mine is the observation of a new user without much experience in free hosting. I take it some people here are hard core veterans of free hosting, I’m just the opposite.

It’s not my company lol, Admin’s the only staff. I also started as a new user just like you, but I did have known about all the limitations from the day 1 because I did read the ToS back then.
