It tells me that the email address has already been taken.
Other Information
I need to get email notices according to the way things work here. I deleted an old account, and now I am trying to update this new account with my real email address. The one on file is just a temporary one.
Beep boop, I’m a bot! I dug through the forum to get you started. I sometimes get things wrong though, so do with this what you will until a human has a look.
Which one did you delete: just the old hosting account, or the whole old members area profile? And is the “already taken” message appearing when you change the email on your current profile?
It sounds like the address is still attached to the old profile. Deleting a hosting account may not free up the email, but I couldn’t find anything on the forum or in the knowledge base that confirms how it works, so I don’t want to guess. The only similar topic I found is from someone with the same “already taken” message when changing their email. It never got an answer that explains it.
Here is that topic:
Your answer will show whether this is the same situation. If the old profile still exists, a person will probably need to look at it.
The most common reason for the “email already taken” error is that the email has actually already been taken.
A very quick way to test this is by requesting a password reset for the new email address. If a profile exists, the form will tell you, and you’ll be able to reset your password or get information on how you can login.
Once you have gained access to the other members area profile, you can delete it or change its email address to something else, so you can use the email address for your current profile.
