All infy.uk subdomains down - suspended by registry

Hi,
I’ve wordpress website with 1xbet-subagent.infy.uk And due to the subdomain is not working now, How can I assign another subdomain to the same webiste?

Seeing how the question gets asked a lot, I will write a little guide here on how to migrate to a different subdomain.

Step 1: Add the new subdomain

First, go to your account and click the Add Domain button.

Then, choose the domain type Subdomain.

Then simply enter a new subdomain using an extension of your choosing, and finally click Create Domain

Step 2: Moving your website files

After adding your new subdomain, it will be assigned to a new folder on your account. The folder name will be something like example.ct.ws/htdocs, where your old domain will be something like example.infy.uk/htdocs or simply htdocs.

To move the website to your new domain name, you will need to move the files to the new location. We have a dedicated guide about that here:

Step 3: Update your website configuration

After moving your website files, you may need to do a few more things. If or how you need to do this depends on how your website works, but you may need to:

  • Update your website configuration to use the new domain name. For WordPress, see this guide. For other website software, please check the documentation of your website software.
  • Update any references to the old file location. In most cases, you don’t need to do anything for this, but some websites generate hard-coded configuration to specific folders on the server, that won’t work anymore now. You can skip this step at first, but have a look at your site’s configuration if you’re running into issues.

I hope that this guide sufficiently clarifies things. To help keep the topic clean, all further posts asking “how to switch to a new subdomain” will be deleted without warning, unless it’s clear that you actually read this post and have additional questions not covered by this guide.

While it is easy to move the files to a different subdomain (I have them backed up on my personal machine anyway), what do we do with databases? I have an SQL database under an infy.uk subdomain. Those are not accessible from another subdomain, right?

Databases are also not tied to domains. You can pretty much access the database anywhere on your hosting account.

Thank you! I see now that databases are stored on sqlxxx.byetcluster.com (or sqlxxx.infinityfree.com)

Hi Support, Hope you are having a lovely day

I have a question regarding my domain infy

Thank you for your atention.

There’s not really a way to “rename” a domain, thankfully it’s relatively easy to add a new domain and move the domain there.

Yeah, looks like we’re back

Great Work ! thnx admin ! hope it won’t happen again wiith any of the domain

The domain name indeed appears to be back!

However, I’m not quite sure why it’s back. I was still waiting on clarification on Nominet regarding some process matters, and the problem hasn’t actually be resolved with them.

This is good news, but I honestly cannot say if this will last.

can we not create new domain with infy.uk ?, cuz i am not able to create!

unlikely for a while.
Admin isn’t going to allow creation of sub domains on the infy.uk domain until he’s certain that the issue with the registry is resolved

Correct. I want to have confidence that the domain will stay up before allowing new registrations. I want to provide subdomains that work, so if I don’t have certainty that the domain will keep working, I do not want people to setup domains.

The other side effect is that if the registry is being difficult with abuse, then the last thing I want is more abusive sites to pop up. And disabling registration on the subdomain is very effective for that.

It’s a pity that Nominet don’t give a list of sites that it has been receiving complaints about so that you could ban them. It’s a shame you have this problem from spammers when you’re providing a damn good free service.
