Not me. Why do you need one? Just because everyone got a VPS does not mean you have to get one too.

This.
I got no job in order to afford such things on my own even then it is not really in a high priority either.

Fun fact: my VPS is on @Repetza azure account, still using free credits from his GitHub for education subscription._.

This is more chaotic than I thought :joy:

Now I understand why Admin didn’t want to deal with the trustpilot profiles

You can get a VPS for less than €5 per month. Some cloud providers even have a free tier (notably Oracle Cloud is particularly generous), although you will need a credit card to sign up. If you’re a student, more offers are available.

You could also setup server at home using an old computer or a single board computer like a Raspberry Pi. And you can even run a VPS on the computer you already have using software like VirtualBox.

Depending on what you want to do with it, there are many low cost options you could try.

Have you checked if there is a bios update (flash)

due to logoFail (vulnerability in UEFI firmware relevant to a large number of modern computers) ?

I noticed today that I have a bios update for my motherboard (example)

plus strenuous actions like:
disable fTPM and security before flash
flash
reboot
load def. settings
set the settings back to custom (OC, and other settings)…

Guess what I do have spare PCs and SBCs at home.

But how the [___] you are gonna setup a home server behind two layer of NAT and a firewall that blocks 20,21,22,25,80,443,465,587,3306,8080,and many more?

So em, I guess I just chill before I had money. :frowning:

It depends on what you want to do with it. I have a few different devices doing server like stuff at home, but they are not accessible from the internet, only from within my home, so then it doesn’t really matter how much your ISP wants to restrict you.

If you do want to run a website that should be accessible, you could try Cloudflare Tunnels. It’s sort-of like a VPN where your server connects to Cloudflare, and Cloudflare sends web traffic back through the VPN to your server.

One notice for all TL4

When the topic is unlisted because the user has published sensitive information

then it makes no sense to make a topic listed after you edit his post
if you are not able to click this button (hide revision) because anyone can click on the pencil icon and see it. they don’t even have to be logged in to the forum, just visit it.

If that button does not exist for you, then leave it unlisted
if necessary, you can notify the staff via PM or via flag (something else).

In addition to all that, it would be good if you all (TL4) come to an agreement
that whoever put unlisted (or any other action at your disposal) that this same person decides if and when it will be listed

similarly, if I ban a user, then I expect to be asked why I banned, and not just admin or GR9 to remove the ban, without trying to understand why I gave it at all and what all the reasons I have.

It is clear to me that you all try to help,
but try not to meddle in the decisions of others unless that person has been away from the forum for several hours or days and you are clear about their decision.

Such meddling of actions may seem to someone as if you are meddling in his work and decisions, so it may turn out to be negative behavior on your part, etc. that you pretend to be his orderly, that you think that you are above him and his decisions
and all the possible conclusions that such actions could draw.

So simply make or follow some unwritten rule
that whoever decides to be in charge of a topic or post
he then decides but also has responsibility for that topic/post.

Notes for admin: One, for cloudflare, the checkbox product is called turnstile. Two, that thing didn’t appear for me so I have to click on Google recaptcha link, which is inconvenient.

:hocho:

In the CF forums (at least a few months ago), there was a lot of talk about how turnstile didn’t work on many devices. I think I saw that it was something related to your location. If you try with vpn does it work? I’ve had some trouble with it not actually validating me despite the orange check (on sites which use turnstile). It is something to consider for UX.

Yes, I know. You also know. Everyone else who knows Cloudflare’s CAPTCHA solution knows.

The thing is that for people who don’t know that Cloudflare has a CAPTCHA system, calling it “Turnstile” would just be confusing. Especially because the widget that’s actually rendered just has a Cloudflare logo, it doesn’t say “Turnstile” anywhere.

So the message says “Cloudflare CAPTCHA” because people who don’t know that it’s actually called Turnstile have no idea what a “Turnstile” is or what it has to do with websites.

For you, it’s unnecessarily dumbed down. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t clarify things for other people.

You know what would also have been inconvenient? Not being able to login in the first place because there was no ReCAPTCHA fallback option.

I had hoped to at least get a little bit of appreciation for the effort I put into making sure that there is a fallback to begin with, because I knew that issues like this were going to happen.

The fallback link visibility was something I’ve been doubting about. The issue is that right now, the CAPTCHA is set up so it only renders the widget if interaction is required. The majority of people trying to login won’t see anything at all and will be able to login without knowing that there is a CAPTCHA at all.

So always showing a “click here if the widget doesn’t render” link wouldn’t make sense if the widget doesn’t render even if it’s working. So the fallback option is only shown if you try to login without a working Cloudflare CAPTCHA.

I knew from before that these CAPTCHAs don’t work for some people for some reason, but I’ve never been able to find out why that is.

Can you please have a look in your browser’s developer tools to see if you see any errors there, or if the requests from Cloudflare are being executed successfully?

90% of updates on the forum are related to chat :upside_down_face:

I wouldn’t be surprised if one day it gets the name discourse chat and not a forum.

I’ve experienced it before on a few other websites, and I spent some time fussing around to find out why the captcha was not showing up. So these are the main reasons I found.

  1. Network stability
  2. Browser cache
  3. Some extensions

I know most of you know how the recapture appears, just to say it again, it only appears if you suspect something. But, like Admin said, the challenge is still executing without user interaction.

Definitely B.

I like that quote.

Do you guys want to hear a funny story? I have liked this one girl since High School started and I’ve told my friends over and over that I will talk to her but it’s been way too long and they’ve lost faith in me.

I would also say B, but many people say that you smear your face there and that it is better C
in the sense that you eat the bad and dry parts first and then eat the tastiest ones at the end

and I liked that because that’s how I eat too…I leave the best for last
