Some of you may have noticed it already, but since the middle of March, it has been possible for new members to sign up to InfinityFree using their Google account.
Logging in with Google has many benefits: you don’t need to remember an additional password, no need to type in your credentials to login (just click a single button), and your InfinityFree account is protected by the robust and battle tested security of your Google account.
The second part of the integration has just been released: everyone can now link their existing InfinityFree profile with their Google account!
How to link your existing account with Google
If you would like to link your account to Google, simply do the following:
Enter a new password to use on the page, and click Save.
What’s next?
Google is a popular choice to use for logins to websites, but there many other providers that can provide single sign on functionality for websites. Additional providers will be added soon. Which provider would you like to see us add?
What would be your preferred method of logging in to InfinityFree?
Google
Microsoft
Apple
Facebook
GitHub
Discord
Email and password
Other (please comment with your preferred option below)
I woudld want to use Wikipedia OAuth, and, I don’t know if you already do this, but quite a few websites let you link multiple 3rd party logins and an email and password. If I were you, I would do something like this, but yeah.
Also, I must’ve been one of the first to use google sign in, since I created my account with it about half way the rough march. I’m sure you can just check the logs. (edit: 2025-03-16 01:46:30)
Interesting suggestion! To be honest, I didn’t know they have the ability to do social login, and I’ve never seen websites offering it. After all, while Wikipedia is one of the world’s most popular websites, you don’t need an account to use the most important features.
The client area doesn’t do this, you can only have one active authentication method at a time.
Enabling social login disables password authentication. That way, there is no risk that someone will be able to access your account by guessing your password, as there is no password to guess.
I also don’t know of that many websites that support having multiple authentication providers. I’m mostly used to SSO in a more “enterprise” context, in which case the company operates a single company directory that serves a source of truth for all applications that connect to it. Companies don’t need multiple SSO connections. And having multiple SSO connections makes it very hard to tell what is someone’s name or email address when both SSO providers have different data.
Do you have some examples of well known websites that offer this?
Signing up with Google became very popular basically the moment it was released, so quite a few people signed up with Google before you. But you’re right that you signed up quite shortly after it was released.
I have multiple applications that allow multiple SSO connections provided the same email address is used. The account name/email is created on the first connection, and not updated for any subsequent connections.
