I’m currently using your free hosting service and planning to install WordPress.
I have a few questions:
What is the latest version of WordPress that is fully supported on your hosting?
Is it possible to manually install a newer version of WordPress than the one available?
I noticed that PHP version 8.3.19 is set by default. Is there any way to manually change or upgrade the PHP version to a higher one (like 8.4 or above)?
Thank you for your great service.
Looking forward to your response.
We only provide one PHP version at a time. We try to stay up to date with PHP releases, and always make sure we run an actively supported PHP version. This should allow for most (new) software to work on our hosting.
WordPress is quite good with their support for multiple PHP versions and generally works well on older PHP versions. WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or higher, but works with any version newer than 7.2.
Newer versions of WordPress will require newer versions of PHP, but we also regularly update our PHP version, so you should always be able to use the latest version of WordPress on our hosting.
As for why we don’t run the latest and greatest version: while WordPress itself is pretty good in their PHP version support, that doesn’t mean that all plugins and themes are as robust. They make take a longer time to support the latest PHP versions, and it may also take some time for people to install the updates. So we typically hold off on updates until we can be reasonably sure that we don’t break too many people’s websites.
