What is HTDOCS used for?

I upload my site to the htdocs folder and everything is working fine.
There is also an HTDOCS folder at the same level as htdocs which appears to be empty.
Can anyone tell me what HTDOCS is used for and can it be deleted?

There is also an HTDOCS folder at the same level as htdocs which appears to be empty

A folder with the name htdocs is the folder where website files should be uploaded. The folder name HTDOCS has no meaning in our system, you’re free to create a folder with that name if you want, but our server doesn’t look at it for website files.

I didn’t create the folder, it was there when I first started along with the htdocs folder.
I’ll just delete the folder.
