Website won't open on any other device

Website URL

dcm.site.je

Error Message

This site can’t be reached

Other Information

Hi,
My published website will only open in Firefox on the laptop I published it on.
If I try to open on any other device it says “This site can’t be reached”.
I’ve cleared all my cache and cookies on the laptop and my browser before publishing.
I used a subdomain dcm.site.je to build the site.
I’m using Infinity Free with Site.Pro Standard plan.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Your site seems to be working to me.

The fact you can open it on firefox, and I can open it on my browser (brave) this strongly suggests that there’s no problem on the hosting side.

How recently did you set up the sub domain? and did you set up a custom DNS resolver on firefox?
If so (and the site is less than 72 hours old) its possible that your other browsers are using a DNS resolver where the dns propagation hasn’t been compelted.

I know that’s unlikely, but it’s one possibility.

Or do you have ad blockers on your other browsers, I’ve seen a couple of ad blockers that block some free hosting sub domains.

That’s interesting…I can’t open on my phone and my sister can’t open it on her computer with Microsoft Edge…I thought it was just confined to my laptop…do you think if I replace the subdomain with a custom domain it might make it more available to others. thanks!

not sure what a DNS resolver is

This is what my sister just got when she tried to open on her phone with Chrome

The address www.dcm.site.je does not correspond to an active or publicly recognized official website in major registry or informational databases.

You’ve still missed one major question, How recently did you set up the domain? You may need to wait up to 72 hours for it to be available everywhere.

At that point, if people are having problems visiting your site it may be that certain ISP’s or firewalls, or ad blockers are blocking the main domain, in which case a custom domain may help, but I wouldn’t jump to that just yet.

the last time i published it was this morning…but I published it a few times last week and waited a few days and still had the same problem

Right, so the domain itself is over 72 hours old.

On one of the affected devices\browers, try opening an incognito window and accessing the site. This will disable all plugins and bypass cache, so it’ll help elimitate those as potential issues

just tried incognito on my phone and it still says “This site can’t be reached”

not sure this helps in anyway but there’s another subdomain I was using for testing templates with on the same Infinity Free account and it opens up on all other browsers craig.free.je…so it seems to be a specific problem with just the other URL

Based on what you’re shared so far, everything points to a block on your end. We do something setup blocks from our end, but those are for an IP address and affect all websites, not specific domain names. Both domains are on the same account, meaning they are on the same IP address, meaning it’s not an IP address level block.

So I think that something on your end is blocking access to site.je domains specifically. That could be a firewall or security filter on your network or at your ISP.

The error message your sister got is quite telling:

This suggests to me that there is a filter on the network that only allows specific trusted websites and blocks anything it doesn’t know. That suggests very strict security filtering on the network, which could cause free hosting subdomains to get blocked, as they tend to have a bad reputation.

Ok thanks so much for this information…my sister and I are both using the same T mobile infrastructure for home internet and phone data so I guess that’s why we were both unable to load page …just had a friend in another city try the URL and it worked for her.
Do you think if I replace the subdomain with a custom .net it will solve the problem for us opening the URL?

Given that the website works with another free subdomain, getting your own domain name would probably help a lot, as it avoids a lot of noisy neighbor effects you get with a free subdomain.

That said, to be clear: the block is setup by your network administrator or ISP, not by us, which means we cannot be sure what exactly they do or do not block. If you want to confirm where the block is coming from, why they are blocking access to your website, and what else they block, you need to find the people responsible for that block and ask them.

Ok ..thanks a lot for your help on this!

before you go out and pay for a custom domain, you might want to look at this:

.pp.ua might not be a standard domain but at least its free haha

thanks!
