My site is hosted on InfinityFree, website built on Site.Pro and domain name held on Ionos.
I’m on the screen ‘Validate Your Domain Name’ and I have a message ‘Please set up the following CNAME record on your domain name’. I’ve been all round the houses trying to find a ‘simple’ answer to this question and what I need to do in both here and on the Ionos pages and I might just as well be reading ‘gobbledegook’
Can anybody PLEASE give a simple ‘step by step’ to getting to the point where I have HTTPS:// with a secured website.
Bear with me, it’s over 20 years since I was last involved in building websites.
At least share your domain name. Without a domain name you will not have any sort of detailed walkthrough because it’s straight up impossible to cater to all possibilities.
Hi, Know the feeling, just done similar with domain on Freeola and website on infinityfree. If you follow the request it will work! You need to add DNS CNAME record on your domain host. I found it under advanced DNS editing. Hope this helps.
Your domain is still using the IONOS nameservers.
This means that any DNS changes, must be done on the IONOS side.
Since you are attempting to verify your domain with CNAME, you need to go to IONOS’ panel to add the corresponding record.
Because CNAME is only used for verification, it will not make your domain work right away after adding the domain to your hosting account.
You then need to add an A record for your domain at IONOS pointing to your hosting account IP address. You can find the IP in the Client Area.
These steps will not request an SSL certificate for you. To obtain an SSL certificate, you need to use the Client Area to create a new order for your domain.
The Client Area will show you a CNAME record which again needs to be added from IONOS not here.
After adding the record, come back to the Client Area to finish obtaining the SSL certificate.
Or, if all of these sounds too complicated to you, you can just add your domain by changing the nameservers to:
ns1.infinityfree.com
ns2.infinityfree.com
In this way you don’t have to deal with DNS records manually and most of the steps can be automated.
