Google Search Console reports:
“Deceptive pages — 1 issue detected.”
No sample URLs are provided in Search Console.
My website is a local shopping marketplace. I recently created a new homepage and a separate test page called home_test.php. After that, I noticed the warning. I do not know whether the issue is related to my website files, a compromised file, suspicious code, or something else.
Could you please advise me on how to investigate the root cause and check whether my hosting account or website files have been compromised?
I recently created a new homepage for my website. The PHP test page opens successfully, but Google Chrome shows a Dangerous Site warning on the website. I have not identified the cause yet. Please help me determine whether this is related to website files, a security issue, or hosting. I can provide screenshots and additional details if needed.
Beep boop, I’m a bot! I dug through the forum to get you started. I sometimes get things wrong though, so do with this what you will until a human has a look.
Your site has been flagged by Google Safe Browsing, and only Google can remove that listing. I found a knowledge base article that explains what the warning means, how to check what was flagged and how to ask Google for a review:
“Deceptive pages” means Google’s scanners think the site looks like phishing. The article lists four common causes:
A copy of another site’s login page.
Another brand’s name or logo.
A hacked site with files you didn’t upload.
A false positive. This mostly hits new sites with little history, especially when the first thing visitors see is a login form with little explanation around it.
Your hosting account is only about ten days old, so the false positive is possible. Nothing yet says which of the four it is.
To narrow it down, can you tell me what a visitor sees first on your new homepage and on home_test.php? In particular, is there a login or sign-up form, and do the names, logos or design look like another company’s?
You can also check your site in the Safe Browsing site status page. The article explains how to read it and how to use the Security Issues report in Search Console. Once you’ve removed anything suspicious, or made it clear what the site is, you can request a review in Search Console. The article says to do that once, and only after everything is fixed.
Like Lemni said, only google can really help you with this. We have no way of knowing why the site is flagged.
We do know there has been an increase in free subdomains being flagged, so potentially getting a custom domain (like a free .pp.ua domain) could help. but that’s not a guaranteed fix.
