Using InfinityFree subdomain externally in paid plan?

Hello, first time posting here. I’m an amateur site admin trying to set up my own server for the first time. I’m doing my best to use the proper terminology but please let me know if there’s something I’m misunderstanding.

In short, my question is, can I use the subdomain I am given by InfinityFree to direct web traffic to my own server instead of using any of the web hosting services provided by InfinityFree?

I have a VPS outside of InfinityFree and I intend to use that to host an app for which I need a domain name rather than just an IP address. Primarily I need the ability to register SSL certificates for proper functionality. I came to InfinityFree because I was informed that you offer free subdomains, which is all I need as my project is only meant to be for myself and my friends.

After I created my account however, I found there was no way to alter the IP address that my A name DNS points to in the InfinityFree control panel. I see a note in there that “premium hosting does include full DNS management,” does that include the ability to use my InfinityFree domain as the web address for my own server?

I would be willing to consider paying for the premium option if I knew that was possible. I would rather avoid publicly registering my own personal information with ICANN and I have no need for the professionalism a second-level domain would offer. Alternatively, are there any recommendations for services that offer free subdomains which I can use for my own server? From my reading, most of those services seem to be defunct. Again, I am a newbie at this, wisdom would be appreciated. Thank you.

No, InfinityFree’s subdomains can only be used on InfinityFree, or on iFastNet’s paid hosting if you have them migrate your account. They cannot be used with other servers.

There are, however, services that provide free subdomains that you can point to your own server, such as No-IP, FreeDNS, and Duck DNS.

No, that only applies if you’re using your own custom domain, but I can see how that could be unclear.

I see. That’s too bad. Thanks for the recommendations, I think No-IP seems to be what I’m looking for.

Have a nice day, thank you.
