Unable to register subdomain

Error Message

The hosting platform returned an error message while trying to process your request. Please try again or try making the change through the control panel. The error returned is: Invalid Domain, please check your input. .9

What subdomain are you trying to register?

Remember that sub sub domains aren’t supported. So you can have Site.free.nf, but you can’t have subsite.site.free.nf

ns-blog.free.nf

The domain name can be registered, but the above error is encountered.

Domains starting with “ns” are system reserved and cannot be used. This extends to domains starting with “ns-” too.

The only issue here is that the client area didn’t catch this error. The domain really cannot be registered.

Why are the domains starting with NS* not registerable?

Is it to avoid subdomains from being used as nameservers?

ns* are reserved word.

This is like you are trying to set nameservers.

ns01.site.free.nf
ns02.site.free.nf

Main purpose is to avoid confusion and disruption to free hosting

I don’t know exactly why this was setup as a restriction on the hosting platform, but I know that it was added there deliberately.

This particular issue was that the check in the client area was more specific than the one in the hosting platform, so it only triggered when the account was being created, instead of during the domain validation step.
