That’s correct. XVHOST used to be a sister company to InfinityFree. It was launched as a companion brand to the predecessor to InfinityFree, Grendel Hosting. It was originally offered as an upgrade option for InfinityFree, but it didn’t really match well, so the XVHOST promotion was replaced with iFastNet.
People always keep saying spam was the issue. It wasn’t the issue. Not the main issue, at least. And just because I have used the word “spam” in my explanation doesn’t mean that people abusing the service was the issue.
The problem is that the email features were just bad. Webmail access only, only accessible through the control panel, only 10 MB of storage per e-mail account, and just ridiculously unreliable overall.
The problem wasn’t so much that there was a lot of spam, but the IP address of the mail server was being blocked basically everywhere due to “spam”. Whether that was actually spam sent from our service, spam that’s forwarded from elsewhere, or just a high volume of email, I don’t know.
What I do know is that the email service was basically abandoned and no effort was put into trying to fix these critical issues.
