Timeline of InfinityFree?

I would like to know what InfinityFree was like back when it started, and what features it got over time.

As a starting point, you could have a look at the News and Announcements that have been posted over the years.

In short, InfinityFree launched in January 2016 with just a website with a signup form. That summer, the first foundation was laid for the client area.

In the years since then, the client area has seen regular updates to improve how it works and looks, and make it easier to use.

In terms of hosting features, there haven’t been that many changes. The main feature changes are the free SSL certificates, and Site.Pro being added, removed, then added again.

I noticed that the premium hosting used to be XVHOST. I also realised that InfinityFree used to offer unlimited disk space and 10 email accounts but now offers only 5GB of disk space and no email accounts

No. They were, and still are, completely different brands. XVHOST has never offered free hosting that I am aware of.

Also no. The disk space still had the cap of 5GB, iFN just never said anything about it

That is true. Those were taken away before I showed up, but my understanding of it is that is was just a giant spam cesspool, which completely makes sense.

That’s correct. XVHOST used to be a sister company to InfinityFree. It was launched as a companion brand to the predecessor to InfinityFree, Grendel Hosting. It was originally offered as an upgrade option for InfinityFree, but it didn’t really match well, so the XVHOST promotion was replaced with iFastNet.

People always keep saying spam was the issue. It wasn’t the issue. Not the main issue, at least. And just because I have used the word “spam” in my explanation doesn’t mean that people abusing the service was the issue.

The problem is that the email features were just bad. Webmail access only, only accessible through the control panel, only 10 MB of storage per e-mail account, and just ridiculously unreliable overall.

The problem wasn’t so much that there was a lot of spam, but the IP address of the mail server was being blocked basically everywhere due to “spam”. Whether that was actually spam sent from our service, spam that’s forwarded from elsewhere, or just a high volume of email, I don’t know.

What I do know is that the email service was basically abandoned and no effort was put into trying to fix these critical issues.

Then why did it say this:

I also noticed that 2023 was when InfinityFree’s homepage got the look it has today.

Because:

Although there were ideas, nobody really knew what it was

It’s explain over here:

Also, as the link above describes, even though there was “unlimited storage”, there was still an inode limit.
