I think it’s better to replace the gray “Not Available” on the account creation screen with an orange banner containing a big button that says “See How”, which links to an (existent now or not) article explaining the procedure.

Yes, I’ve been trying to make the whole process more clear, but it doesn’t seem like this is the way.
In the original situation, there was no custom domain option, just some text next to the subdomain search saying “you can add more domains later”. This appears to have been the best so far, but did generate the occasional support request about people thinking it was not possible to host their own domain.
A few weeks ago, I ran an experiment where it was possible again to use a custom domain during account creation. But this lead to a reduction in successful completions of the account setup procedure, so I rolled it back.
But I kept in the domain selection screen with the custom domain option disabled, to make it clear that it is possible, just not there. But that also appears to be confusing people who think that that option should become available after creating an account.
Linking to a guide doesn’t seem that useful, the instructions are just “create an account with a subdomain first, then add your domain to it after it’s setup, following the instructions shown while adding that domain”. The most unclear part is where to find the Add Domain button I think.

Forum Leaders are just members who have shown a good track record of coming here regularly and being helpful and sensible. So they are giving the badge, which comes with some elevated permissions (more than regular members but less than moderators) to help keep the forum clean.
They are not InfinityFree staff and I do not know any of them personally.
