I’ve recently moved a small site to InfinityFree and love how easy everything is so far. One thing I noticed is the lack of email forwarding from custom domains. Currently, I’m using third-party services, which adds another layer of complexity.
Would it be possible (or is it already in the works) to include a simple email-forwarding feature for free accounts? Even basic forwarding (like support@mydomain → Gmail) would be incredibly helpful.
Has anyone found a reliable workaround? Or have any ideas on how this could be implemented within the existing control panel?
We don’t have any email services at this time, and nothing like that is in the works.
Setting up a simple email forwarding server is easy. However, now you’ve created two big red flags:
You’re forwarding all email, including spam mails. Recipient mail servers, like Gmail in your example, will see a lot of spam coming from your mail server.
You’re forwarding email from other email providers through your server. However, these other email providers did not authorize you to send email on their behalf. The recipient email server will see that and assume you are sending spoofed (fake) email.
This will quickly get you post on every blocklist imaginable and you’ll never be able to get an email through.
These issues can be fixed, but both spam filtering and managing reputation is hard. And email forwarding is extra difficult, because you can’t just put the message in a spam folder when in doubt. Either you send it, which means you’re liable for it, or you drop it, and risk the user losing important messages.
We actually used to have an email forwarding. But it failed to address the problems I listed above (and had many other problems). It was so bad it was basically useless.
Remember that we are a website hosting provider, so our expertise is with web hosting.
So no, we don’t have it and we’re not going to have it for the foreseeable future.
That means you’re stuck using third party services for email forwarding.
