(SOLVED) Unable to delete few directory at root [htdocs level]

figured it out
Not sure what caused it but,

  1. i renamed the directory to a newly created subdomain
  2. deleted that subdomain
  3. deleted the subdomain directory and it worked.

Error Message

getting this below mentioned error while trying to delete some old subdomain dir folders in ftp, anyone aware of why this happening ?
Error during FTP delete directory, permission denied at: “/del/htdocs”.

Tried so far:

  1. chmod the dir to 777 and delete, no luck.
  2. renamed the directory and delete, no luck
