There have been many reports of timeout errors on websites yesterday and today. After checking it, the issue appears to have been reported on the following IP address:
185.27.134.98
185.27.134.143
185.27.134.215
The IP address 185.27.134.98 is down right now due to an ongoing DDoS attack.
The IP addresses 185.27.134.143 and 185.27.134.215 are up right now. I don’t know exactly why these IP addresses were down but my best guess at this time is that the IP addresses were attacked before but the attack has subsided.
In most cases, these attacks are caused by someone trying to cause harm to one of the websites on that IP address. Moving all websites to a different IP address will likely move the attack to the new IP address too.
And more importantly: changing IP addresses itself guarantees some downtime. DNS caching will make it so that it can take a few days for the change to fully take effect and everyone to use the new IP address. And that’s only for websites using our nameservers, people using third party DNS hosting will have to update their configuration themselves to bring their website back online.
I understand that this problem is frustrating and you want to actually do something about it. But the best solution with the least impact is simply to wait out the attack.
Admin’s latest update says that all IP addresses should be back online. What’s the specific site so we can check it? You can use https://www.temporary-url.com/ if you don’t want it to be at risk of attack.
