Please do not download the source code that is publicly available to strangers

I downloaded the source code of a video website published by others on the Gitee platform today and uploaded it to my host, but without debugging, I soon received an email notification from InfinityFree, my account was blocked, yes, my account was blocked, the reason was that I uploaded illegal content, I am sorry I caused trouble to InfinityFree, and I also regret downloading the source code published by others. Therefore, I would like to advise everyone not to download the source code that is open to strangers.

Hope InfinityFree will take care of this issue properly after being informed, thanks to InfinityFree

I hope InfinityFree can properly solve this problem after receiving the notice, thanks to InfinityFree, I like InfinityFree very much, it is a good public welfare platform

By “take care of this issue” I assume you mean the suspension; however, neither us nor Admin control the ticket system, so we can’t help you in the forum.

I’ll have to wait for the InfinityFree supervisor to sort it out, I’m sorry.

In general, it’s a really bad idea to just upload random code on the internet.

But a quick look at the files of the account tells me that it’s from something called PornTube.

It doesn’t matter how good the quality of the software is or how trustworthy the creator is. We do not allow adult content on our hosting, so obviously something called PornTube raises red flags.

So I don’t buy your “but I didn’t know” explanation you gave in the ticket. It’s very obvious what the software is.

I really don’t know, I just went to another website and downloaded the source code, and I can give you a screenshot of that website

This is the URL of the source code at the time:" [removed

I’m grateful for you to reply to me, I hope all of my accounts are unsuspended, thank you, the people who made this source code and rubbed the edges are really speechless

Why do you need a CMS for video streaming anyways?

Maybe you get the idea. Ever since I was a child, I had the idea of building my own video website, because I was deeply touched by the powerful platforms such as Youtube

Running a streaming platform on its own is also prohibited on InfinityFree. Though the 10mb limit for files means you’d be pretty limited in what videos you could upload anyway.
Embeding videos from other sites like YouTube is okay (as long as the videos in question are legal and don’t violate the terms).

The README file in you website has a link to GitHub. I haven ever heard of this Ggitee website, but it’s possible they are (illegally?) mirroring content from GitHub.

Even then, at the bottom of the screenshot, it also says PornTube. So there were signs.

Gitee is a source code collection site in China, and I didn’t know what Porntube was before, but now I feel speechless when I learn about it. But thank you for trusting us and reactivating my account.

Just to clarify:

  1. The name’s Gitee. Not Ggitee. And
  2. If you never heard of Gitee before, it’s not Gitee’s fault. Gitee is the largest Git hosting site in China and by no means it is not legitimate. And
  3. I cannot find any reference in that repo towards GitHub, so I’m uncertain about this. And finally
  4. PornH*b is nothing except a joke in China. When someone add a PornH*b reference here at China in their projects / articles / whatever, it only implies that it has nothing to do with porn but the author is trying to be funny.

I hope that this clarifies the misunderstanding here (if there’s still any).

If the name is Gitee, not Ggitee, they shouldn’t make their logo say Ggitee.

Google’s logo just says “Google”, not “Ggoogle”.

I have indeed never heard of it. I do know of Gitea, which is a self hosted Git server.

The README file on the website referred to GitHub, not this service.

Adding all of that up, it looked to me like a clear case of a site with an infringing name making legally questionable copies of GitHub repos.

The README file on the website references this as the official URL: GitHub - PuZhiweizuishuai/PornTube: A simple video website, use Spring Boot, Vue, vuetifyjs

That might be. But please understand that if you upload something to our hosting that looks like a porn streaming site, we’re going to assume that it’s a porn streaming site.

And joke or not, but using the PH logo seems like trademark infringement to me.

Because they didn’t. If you look at the untranslated version, then you’ll know that the first “G” is just their logo image, it’s not a part of its name.

It’s like saying I’m using “Octocatgithub” when obviously the octocat image is not a part of “GitHub”.

I think I see it, and I can understand you now.

Yet this is simply not true. Gitee don’t do GitHub mirroring most of the times, and if they did, they’ll use a special account with clear indications on it.

It’s also strange to me that why would mirrored content have different repo names.

So in this case, even if it’s mirrored content, it’s that user’s own will and doesn’t have anything to do with Gitee.

And by looking at the GitHub profile of the author of that GitHub repo, I have good reasons to believe that those are just the same person.

Even if Gitee did this, it’s technically still not illegal. After all, that’s one of which that what free softwares are about.

Welcome to China then.

Please understand that I just went by what is in the screenshot. And in the screenshot, it says “Ggitee”.

I didn’t check the website itself and I didn’t check the source code. And I also didn’t consider translation anomalies, which is probably the main source of confusion here.

But saying the icon of the logo is part of the company name is just ridiculous. I didn’t call it “RedBallGgitee”. I just read the letters in the logo, which looked like they were one word due to the typography.

As you’ve already stated. I realize that my first observation was wrong, that doesn’t mean that my first observation never happened.

It’s likely that the author uploaded the software to both websites, yes. And even if they didn’t, the MIT license allows for redistribution of the software.

But I’ve also seen a lot of SEO spam sites that just copy all the text from GitHub projects for the purpose of easy content generation to plaster ads on. It’s not impossible for someone to search for a project and end up on such as spam site.

Again, you’ve made it abundantly clear that my assumptions were incorrect. That doesn’t mean that the facts that it was based on were also wrong.
