A common mistake made by many is mistaking a “hosting account” as a “website”.
A hosting account can contain multiple websites, so make sure to check each account instead of staring at the account screen and thinks that “I have 3 websites”.
And please note that the label of each account, which by default is “Website for example.com”, is not dynamic. It doesn’t reflect what’s actually in your account. Instead it’s just a label you can change.
So make sure to actually look inside the accounts.
Since this is a free subdomain I’m going to assume that you are talking about “hosting accounts”.
You can remove the domain from one account then re-add the domain to another. Do note that there isn’t any simple way to transfer the files between accounts, so if you already have a website on that domain you must migrate it manually.
To move a free sub domain from an account to another, i don’t see any option to do this… Nevermind to migrate manually the files, im looking for move that domain to another account. I dont see any options. Thanks….
Ok, there is not any options and i have to do manually, but how? I read all the post, but im not able to find a solution!
I have never do similar operation here at Infinityfree, so, i need some little advice…please.
Thanks.
I need to MOVE a sub domain to another account. I never talk “how to make a website backup“…
If is possible, a little step by step?
OR, maybe i have to DELETE existing sub domain, then re-use under another account?
I don’t know if the system allow this operation…
Here the system say: if i want to use the domain on other account, i need to remove/delete first!
I’m asking this, no backup is required cause the website are empty… Hope you understand now…
Is it a trusted message? From the system….
The most reliable way to move a subdomain from one account to another is roughly as follows:
Download the files and database of your website to your computer. The Backup article shared before describes this in more detail.
Set up the website on the new hosting account. You can create the directory upm.rf.gd/htdocs on the new account, and upload your files to it. You can also create a new database on the new account, import the contents, and update the configuration file. The Migrate article shared before covers this in more detail.
Remove the domain name from the old account.
Add the domain name from the new account.
That’s it! It can take a while for your website to work again because the IP address was changed. You don’t need to do anything for it, but due to DNS caching it can take up to 72 hours to correctly resolve to the new account (but usually less than 12 hours). But if you completed step 2 successfully, then once the domain name is back up again, your website should be exactly as you left it.
And just a few things to make clear:
Yes, backing up and “migrating” is the way to move files between accounts.
There is no way to move websites between accounts directly, it’s a manual process.
There is no need to deactivate your account during this process. If the old account is obsolete, you can deactivate it after step 3, but it’s not necessary to migrate the website. Just don’t deactivate the old account while the domain is still attached to it, it will just take down your website and make you unable to access the files or unlink the domain until you reactivate the account.
Please understand the difference between a “hosting account”, “domain name” and “website”, these terms are not interchangeable. A single hosting account can contain multiple domain names, and a single domain name can host multiple websites.
