My website has just been updated with many changes, but the problem is that it doesn’t work because the PHP version is lower than 8.4.0. As a result, it shows the message: “Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version >= 8.4.0.” I hope the admin will upgrade to the latest PHP version, such as 8.5.1.
I’m afraid that no one on this forum (literarily, including the Admin) controls the PHP version.
New versions will get introduced eventually, but iFastNet (who is actually rssponsible for upgrading PHP) doesn’t really have a good track record of upgrading PHP on time.
Our servers are still on PHP 8.3, which is still an actively supported version.
We don’t typically run the latest and most cutting edge PHP version because it can often take quite a while for a lot of website software to get support for the latest PHP versions, and then for everyone to update to those newer versions. We have to balance the needs between people who run very new software that quickly drops support for older PHP versions and people who run older software which is slower to update.
That said, I do think that’s probably time to start upgrading to PHP 8.4 by now.
Until that’s done, is it possible for you to downgrade your software to versions that do still work on PHP 8.3?
Is this software you’ve built yourself using some Composer dependencies? Or is this off the shelf software? And if this is off the shelf, can you please share which exact software and which version requires PHP 8.4?
