I’ve had site for a few years now and at some point when I or someone else tries to access it there’s a severe warning from (in my case) Bitdefender that the site is unsafe, and when I do get there the address bar tells me the site is not secure.
I’m not a programmer of any kind and I’d like to know how to correct that.
Welcome back!
The browser address bar will show “Not Secure” because you don’t have a valid SSL certificate. To fix this, simply install one by following this:
Then wait for up to 30 minutes and try visiting your site using https:// instead of http://.
If you want everyone to stop seeing the “Not Secure” warning, just force HTTPS:
As for the Bitdefender warning, check if installing an SSL certificate resolves it. If it doesn’t, your domain was likely listed on their blocklist (a false positive). In that case, you’ll need to contact them directly to get your site removed from the blocklist, since we can’t do anything about it on our end.
Thanks anyway, but I have no idea how to do this and the links don’t go anywhere special. I’m working on new material and will create a new site all together. I’ll rehost it someplace geared towards people like me who don’t have the skills needed to do the above.
You’re unlikely to find anywhere for free that allows you to host a site without putting in some leg work.
Your site is saying its not secure because you dont have SSL set up, and you’re not accessing it through HTTPS. The links Wasik posted are guides on how to set up the above.
Firstly, you can get a SSL certificate by going into your dashboard, and clicking “accounts”
