When I try to create an account for it, InfinityFree shows the message: “The domain is not assigned to an InfinityFree account. Please add the domain to a hosting account to show a website on it.”

This sounds quite contrary to me.

Because that error message is only shown when you check a domain, not to add a domain.

I think you misinterpreted things. You think you are adding a domain but you are probably just checking it all the time.

To add your domain to your account through the client area:

1. Go to your hosting account.
2. Find the Domains list.
3. Click the Add Domain button in the corner.
4. Choose the Domain Type as Custom Domain.
5. Enter the domain name in the field.
6. Choose the directory where the domain should be linked to. You can choose to setup a new directory for the domain, or make it an alias of another domain on your account.
7. Click the Add Domain button to save it.
