Is there a way I can google search “marcus” and “free.nf” and not get some football player named Marcus Freeman? No offense, I am just more of a baseball fan (Toronto Blue Jays now.)
- This is not your topic, and that’s not the subject of this topic.
- No, you cannot. Google decides what they think is the best result for your query, and if they decide that information about Marcus Freeman is the most relevant for your query of “marcus free.nf”, then those are the results you get. You cannot just choose keywords and force Google to put your website on top for those keywords.
I split your posts to another topic. I already told you it was not relevant to the topic you were replying to, and since you want to keep discussing this, I think it would be better to have a separate topic.
As a website owner: yes, it sucks. As a website user: no, it really doesn’t.
Everyone wants their website to be ranked on top for the keywords they want. But only one website can be at the top search results, promoting one website means another website needs to be pushed down. So search engines need to decide which page should be shown at the top and which should be ranked further down, based on what they think is probably the most relevant result. After all, that’s probably what internet users are looking for.
What other system would you propose that would let you push your own website to the top without creating a free for all where search results are just whatever the last website owner to do so wanted to shove in your face?
I believe Google can make things happen through “Sponsored links“. You can easily unseat Mr. Marcus Freeman no doubt. But I’m unsure if such privilege is open to mere mortals like us. However, instead of aiming being the top of search engine results, you should focus your efforts and time in building your own brand. Add unique and engaging content. If you work hard enough, Google will find you, without doing any SEO at all. SEO is just one of the tools of the trade. Google sees and rewards the good.
“Sponsored links” are just ads. Anyone can put any website there, if you’re willing to pay for it. I think you can do that through Google Ads.
But since you’re on free hosting, that’s probably not something you’re willing to do. So organic search results is what you want, which means you just need to build your brand.
