Installing Wordpress using Softaculous in naked domain (without www or subdomain) result to 404

This is my second question today.

I install Wordpress using Softaculous successfully on my own domain (let say xyz.com) that I bring in to Infinity Free.

I can execute Wordpress after installation successfully when using subdomain. For instance abc.xyz.com will work.

But it is not working with 404 not found error when Worpress is installed in naked domain, i.e. xyz.com. I have not tried xyz.com/wp yet.

Another question is that, I can not set www as subdomain in Infinity Free cpanel. So how to have www maped to the naked domain?

Thanks
Haris

Just to update that it turns out I can access the Wordpress site from my android mobile phone and tablet. But not from my notebook. I have cleared history and that does not solve the problem. Still getting 404 on my notebook both on Chrome and Firefox.

Very weird!

This sounds like a caching issue. Either browser cache or DNS cache, but it’s specific to your device and network.

The www subdomain is always created as an alias to the non-www domain. That’s the reason you can’t create it manually: it’s created automatically for you.

OK, understood that. Still did not explain why I cannot access the page from my notebook but accesible from another phone or tablet. And not just the naked domain. I even try www.

Now I have another issue. If I click on SiteBuilder as in bellow image

And follow the process to create a default site base on template. I can finish the process and indeed file is uploaded to folder. But I am getting bellow error when opening the correct url

“This page isn’t working
bizs.rf.gd is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500”

This time, I can not acccess the page whether it is the naked domain (bizs.rf.gd) or subdomain (my.bizs.rf.gd). Cannot access from laptop or even mobile phone.

Is thit “sitebuilder” not working a known issue?

Since no further answer. Let me wrap-up with what I think happened.

I read around and discover that Infinity Free (IF) has tendency to display 404 page to rack-up advertisement dollars.

Indeed it happened for few hours (displaying 404) and then it just works without me having to do anything special!

I will have to monitor this. If it is just a one time time, I am fine with it.

The other problem is with SiteBuilder and not related to this.

Thanks
Haris

Basically, your notebook “remembers” the old, broken location of the website. The issue is already fixed on the server side, but your notebook doesn’t bother to check for it because it already “knows” the location of your website, even if it’s broken. That’s why it works on your phone: it “remembers” the new, correct location of your website.

Does that explanation make sense?

Yes, this sitebuilder has issues. There are ideas to improve it, but aren’t high on the to do list.

Basically, your notebook “remembers” the old, broken location of the website.

I cleared browser cache and even use another browser that did not access the URL before. At that time, still same 404 page.

However if you are referring to the notebook/pc DNS cache (instead of browser cache), then it is possible. Is there instruction of how to clear notebook/pc cache of nameserver?

And thanks for the info about SiteBuilder. It is good to know. I am not using it for anything, just exploring to see what SiteBuilder do.

The issue could be caused by cache in your browser, DNS cache in your operating system or DNS cache with your internet provider.

If you search the web for “how to clear dns cache on windows 10” or whatever operating system you’re using, you’ll find plenty of guides available on how to do that.
