thank you for the warm welcome and for the update. i appreciate your efforts in working with the registry to restore access to the domain. while i understand there is no estimated time of arrival at this moment
I would appreciate any updates as they become available.
Thank you for going ahead and putting up the announcement @Greenreader9!
A bit of context about the issue: Nominet, the .uk registry, contacted us a few days ago due to frequent abuse with the warning saying that were going to take down the domain because they believed it was used for malicious purposes.
They did say that they would be willing to discuss options if this was in error, and we responded to them with information about what we do and how we can help.
But they appear to have gone ahead with the suspension anyway without responding to us. I have sent them another message to follow up on this, but there is no response.
All we can do now is wait for Nominet to respond. I hope that they will respond tomorrow, but I have no idea how soon they will respond, whether they will respond at all, or whether they are willing to make accommodations to support the use case of free hosting.
Does this mean that we will lose access to our domain, which was hosted on infy.uk, and that the website associated with this domain will no longer be visible to anyone? However, a similar situation occurred previously when epizy.com unexpectedly went down, yet my domain continued to function under epizycom through my other account. Even though we were restricted from creating new domains on epizycom, InfinityFree did not alter the domains of users who were previously hosted on epizycom. Could the same situation apply to .infy.uk?
It’s too early to tell. It’s in Nominet’s hands now. It’s up to them to choose whether they are willing to let the domain operate.
Like infy.uk is now, the epizy.com domain has been down in the past due to similar reasons. But in those cases, the suspensions were initiated by the registrar, not the registry. We’re now hosting our domain with a registrar that’s more accommodating.
New registrations are now disabled on epizy.com because it got too big, but existing websites will keep working.
Whether the domain infy.uk will come back up, and whether new registrations will be enabled, depends on how things go from here.
I understand that the current situation with infy.uk is different from past incidents like epizy.com, and I appreciate your efforts in working with a more reliable registrar moving forward. While I understand it’s too early to predict the outcome, I sincerely hope that infyuk can be restored, as the domain is important to me
I genuinely hope that, through some resolution, my domain can be preserved. It would be deeply unfortunate to lose it, as it holds significant value for me
can you confirm that it can be recovered and we can see infy.uk again ? if no any other solution like we can change domain from infy.yk to other domain , is that even possiible ? or we need to delete the domian and create new ?
While it feels like yourname → infy.uk like infy.uk is just an extension you can change like a file extension, domains doesn’t work like that. infy.uk is “bigger” than the part before it, and there’s no way to “just change the domain from one extension to another”.
The only thing you can do is to migrate your website from one to another.
You don’t have to necessarily delete the domain, and for reference, it not recommended to panic and move away from the domain just yet, sometimes waiting is better.
You can move your website to a different free subdomain. Simply add a new domain to your account and move a website to it.
Modifying an existing domain name has never been possible (you can only add and remove domains), and this situation is no exception.
If you do decide to go that route, I recommend you keep the infy.uk domain linked to your account. That way, you can move back when the domain is restored, or just setup a redirect to your new domain. At the very least you’ll prevent others from registering your old domain name.
