Iframe, url embed, and rss not working from InfinityFree subdomain on Wix site and external widgets

https://nwcarriagemuseum.infinityfreeapp.com/

I have been trying to embed some H5P plugin (WordPress) content into a new Wix site.

The embed code used from H5P on my previous WordPress site, embedded in the new site as a test/placeholder while building before it and before transferring my primary domain, worked fine, so I know H5P content via WordPress site iframe embeds work on Wix.

Since no H5P integration exists for Wix, I have a tiny site here on InfinityFree exclusively to build and host that H5P content via WordPress, so I can iframe embed it in my new Wix website.

My issue is that, when I use the iframe embed code in Wix from the H5P content on my InfinityFree subdomain, nothing shows in the embed frame, nor do I get an error.

I can successfully embed my H5P plugin content on my InfinityFree subdomain site using either the full embed code or the shortcode, so I know the H5P embed code is good. I tried working around it by embedding a normal page or post containing the content from the subdomain into Wix, but the content still does not show.

I also ensured that my InfinityFree site is https, since that is a requirement for site embeds on Wix.

I have ruled out the embed code as the issue, as well as Wix (I was able to successfully embed content from other external sites). And since I had previously successfully embedded WordPress pages into Wix, I’m confident it is not a WordPress issue either.

As a last-ditch attempt to force a fix, I tried a couple of third-party widget solutions for embedding WordPress blog posts or more general RSS feeds, but neither were unable to see any posts at all from my InfinityFree subdomain.

Please help… I know that displaying this content on my Wix site is a viable option, but there is clearly something about the subdomain or hosting that is disallowing the embedded content and RSS to be found and displayed by external sites and widgets.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, and Welcome to the InfinityFree Forum!

The issue you are experiencing arises from this:

I would recommend using InfinityFree instead of Wix to host your site if you plan on integrating the features you mention.

Wix has an awesome builder and literally dozens of built-in tools and integrations that I’m using for my website, plus a huge backend support staff that ensure that everything works right without me needing an in-house web team, so your suggestion to use InfinityFree instead of Wix is unfortunately way out of the question. Additionally, I just spent about 40 hours building a gorgeous interactive website on Wix, so it makes even less sense to abandon that to accommodate what seems like a really impractical shortcoming of a security system on a free hosting site.

I have spent at least 6 hours testing, troubleshooting, researching, and reconfiguring to resolve this issue… it is very frustrating that the answer is as simple as “nothing hosted on InfinityFree can be embedded anywhere” and it doesn’t say that anywhere in all the dozen or so help articles, forum posts, etc that I read. Embedding is an insanely common practice, that seems like something worth explicitly stating somewhere easy to find.

Thank you for your quick response, I appreciate the help.

InfinityFree and Wix are similar, but very different. Wix is a fully managed WYSIWYG editor whereas InfinityFree is just hosting space.

The security system on free hosting exists to protect the free hosting infrastructure from attacks that would affects hundreds of websites, and helps prevent your website from getting suspended from internet bots you have no control over.

But it does. This question gets asked multiple times a week Searching the word embedding “Search results for 'embedding' - InfinityFree Forum”, the very first result is your answer. I’m not sure what you were searching for or reading, but this system is very well documented on the forum.

Blocking embeds is becoming more and more common, blocking image imbeds has been around for awhile, and headers that prevents iframs and similar embedding have been recommended by professionals for a long time as well. Usually these things are not enabled by default as it can confuse people new to the hosting space, but turning them on is always a good idea.

I have not used Wix for probably 6-7 years at this point, but I remember them being slow, limited, and expensive, and I imagine a lot of that has not changed. It’s a good platform for people that like the drag and drop simplicity and don’t mind paying (Or don’t mind the domain limitations and ads), but it’s not meant for complex websites (Whereas hosts like InfinityFree are more equipped to handle).

If you already have your entire website on Wix and don’t mind the ads/fees, I would find a new way to share tis content with your viewers. Migrating your entire site to WordPress or a similar CMS and hosting elsewhere would ensure that extending your site is not limited by your hosting provider (As sites like WP can easily be transferred, you are not locked into an ecosystem like you currently are).
