Not tried it but phpbb is basically just a case of uploading the php code and assigning an SQL database. You can prefix the table names if you only have one DB and want to use a CMS as well.
Be aware that phpbb is a security nightmare. It WILL get hacked sooner or later. Disqus is easy to set up, and security is a SEP.

You can get a free subdomain like rf.gd from us.

cu.cc used to provide free subdomains before, but their website has been unreachable for a while now.
