I can't change the nameservers of the custom domain to redirect it to InfinityFree

Website URL

kirbymarche.it

Error Message

I have a domain (kirbymarche.it) purchased on Siteground. I chose InfinityFree as my hosting plan because the free plan met my needs. When I went to enter the custom domain, I entered the CNAME record as per practice but I cannot change the nameservers. From the Siteground console, I cannot redirect the servers to InfinityFree.

I spoke with Siteground support and they actually told me that the domain (kirbymarche.it) cannot be linked to the InfinityFree hosting plan and in order to properly verify this I need the IP addresses of both nameservers. How can I get them and make the domain compatible with InfinityFree hosting? I attach screenshots for further clarification.

Thank you very much

If you already verified your domain with CNAME, there’s no need fiddling with nameservers. Just add the corresponding A record will do.

Pardon me, do you mean these records?

So I can safely install wordpress and the domain will be redirected to the new hosting plan without changing nameservers?

Thank you very much for your helpfulness

The .it registry has some additional rules for nameservers that mean you cannot point the domain to our nameservers before the domain is added to your hosting account. So then you have to use CNAME verification.

Once the domain is added to your account, you should be able to update the nameservers of your domain. But you can also keep using SiteGround’s nameservers, and just configure the right DNS records there.

You can find the IP addresses of the nameservers with any DNS lookup tool. And Siteground should be able to fetch them themselves if they need them (which would be odd, because that’s not how nameservers work).

Yes, those records indeed. But to be clear: you need to configure those in Siteground’s nameservers, our DNS record management has no effect on your domain if you’re not using our nameservers.

No need to blur the IP addresses though. DNS records can always be seen by anyone in the world. You want everyone to see those IP addresses, because that’s how they will be able to connect to your website.

Thank you very much for the clarity of your answer and for your helpful explanation. So to redirect the IP I have to delete all the records pointing to the Siteground IP address? I have already added the mentioned records in the InfinityFree console through the Siteground platform.

I attach image of the records present on Siteground.

I don’t see a reason in this, as you may wish to keep some parts of Siteground working, like their emails. But it’s up to you.

Pardon me, I don’t want to make this thread longer than it needs to be. So it is okay even if it is configured like this on InfinityFree?

You do have to delete the A records of Siteground IPs on @ / kirbymarche.it and www.kribymarche.it, otherwise your site will behave strangely. The rest of them is up to you.

I have already removed the A record with the name “kirbymarche.it” and the IP address “35.214.168.224” but I do not see the “www.kirbymarche.it” record with the IP address “35.214.168.224.” I only have these A records in the Siteground consoleOf A records I only have these in the Siteground console.

Then just ignore me on that. I assumed that you’d have one.

Now you just wait for the DNS records to propogate. DNS changes are not instantly reflected everywhere, so it’ll take sometime before your device as well as the client area to pick up the changes.
