When I try to force HTTPS traffic to my site with your suggested code the menu display is distorted. See attached image

My first guess is that your website has a reference to a CSS file that’s still loaded over HTTP, and that’s being blocked on the HTTPS site because mixed content is not safe.
But guessing is all I can do without seeing your site. Would you mind sharing the URL here?

edit this HTTP (in red) to be HTTPS
So you want your website to use HTTPS. You want to secure your website and enjoy the search engine benefits. In order to get that sweet padlock, there are a couple of things you need to do.
By installing and setting the suggested plugin I was able to solve the problem. Thank you!
