HTMLy migration or transfer

Error Message

Not an error message. I use HTMLy blog for my hobby/fun website. I am trying to move my HTMLy files from my other host/domain to the free subdomain and hosting here at (garyghost.free.nf)

I am following the guide for migration found at Migration - HTMLy Docs

The steps are simple and I’ve done them before but this time I can’t get website moved over.

I’ve repeated the steps a few times and I am sure that I correctly did everything as instructed. I am wondering if maybe it’s just write permissions for the cache and content folders? I am only guessing, I really have no idea.

Other Information

Kind of off topic but I am switching host providers because my previous hosting has a lot of down time, which they deny is actually happening.

We’re happy to help you with this. But to be able to help you, we need you to tell us what exactly is the issue that you’re facing. Simply speculating about possible reasons for the issue doesn’t tell us much if it’s not clear what is the issue.

Your website seems to be working fine from here and displays what seems to be a pretty much out-of-the-box HTMLy installation. And the migration guide looks pretty straight-forward to me.

So what did you expect to see instead? Or what issues are you running into?

I don’t see any of my previous postings, static pages or any semblance of my original blog. I posted one item to see if that function was working.

I checked your account and I noticed a few things.

  • You appear to have moved all the files from a cPanel hosting account here, including many files and directories in places where our servers don’t do anything with it.
  • This includes a public_html folder, that contains a website.
  • The htdocs folder also contains a website.
  • You appear to have an HTMLy installation in Softaculous. This appears to be a new installation, and seems to be

A few things went wrong here:

  • Our server (usually - check the client area to be sure) looks in folder called htdocs for your website, not public_html.
  • Installing a website with Softaculous gives you a new site. If you are migrating an existing, site don’t use Softaculous to install a new site. Only install a new site if you want a new site.

To fix this, I would recommend to do the following:

  1. Go into the file manager or into your FTP client.
  2. Delete ALL folders in the home folder of your account EXCEPT the public_html folder.
  3. Rename the public_html folder to htdocs.

When you then check your website again, you should see your original website, exactly as it was on your old host.

By doing this, you’re deleting all the unnecessary files, the fresh installation from Softaculous, and making sure that your migrated website is in the right place.

Thank you for your work, it was saying that I needed an index.html or index.php. I created both of them but I don’t have a clue what should be in them. Would you happen to have one I could just copy and paste?

No, you are comprehending that message in a completely wrong way.

If you migrate your website properly (by following what Admin told you above), you’ll have a working index.php.

You don’t create these files by hand.

Thank you! The index.php from my old install didnt make it over. Who knows why, maybe it was me, maybe it somehow failed to transfer. Anyways, everything is good to go. Thank you all. You guys are awesome, I’m really happy to move here.
