How to renew free ssl certificate?

Every time this issue comes up, I am completely flummoxed by it…
I get a renewal notice, click ‘View SSL Certificate’, open it in three or four different browsers until I am finally able to view it, View the Private Key and Certificate … but there is no option to do anything with the two displayed fields, nor are there any controls such as “use this data” …

What am I supposed to do with those two fields?? Where do I upload them?
and why can’t you make your automated system automated??

The SSL certificate system can be almost completly automatic.

If you’re using an infinity free subdomain, then it is 100% automatic, you have SSL by default

If you’re using your own domain that you’ve got from elsewhere, then you just need to select “Request free SSL certificate” and follow the instructions.

Okay, I’m using InfinityFree’s SSL Certificates; it’s provided by Google Trust, according to the SSL Certificates page…

So will it just auto-renew when it expires on 2025-06-18 ??

If you’re using your own domain, and the free certificate, you’ll need to renew it from time to time.

IF you’re using an infinity free subdomain, when you’re existing certificate expiers, you’ll automatically move onto the automatic one.

Okay, cool… yes, I’m using the domain assigned by InfinityFree (derelllicht.42web.io) and their regular SSL certificate.

I guess I should just turn off the option that notifies me when my certificate is about to expire!

Thank you for the quick responses, as well as the above link…

It *is* disconcerting, though, that when I turned off "send expiration reminders" just now, the page displayed:
Renew certificate
This certificate is due to expire in 7 days! You can renew the certificate now to make sure your site keeps working.

given that I cannot “renew the certificate now”…
Oh well…

Yeh, that message is because the functionality has only recently changed, and people (like me) with external domains pointed here can still set up SSL certificates. I understand why you’d find it strange though

The “Send expiration reminders” option only disables the email notifications, it doesn’t modify the notices shown in the client area.

The expiration warning being shown there is indeed not the best UX. This is in part an oversight on my end, but also because it’s a lot of work to implement for a temporary situation. In a month from now, all previous SSL certificates for free subdomains will have expired, there will be no new certificates, and no expiration warnings.

Well, thank you for your clarification, and thanks again to @dan3008 for his helpful discussions with me about this topic!!

I will certainly be pleased to have the SSL certificates handled automatically now!!
