I wouldn’t actually use a free subdomain with Google Sites when IF itself is a hosting provider (my opinion). Maybe this guide from Google Sites Support might be helpful to assist you:

You can’t use our domains with other hosting providers. This includes Google Sites.

Use Freenom.com instead, buy a domain name or use the free Google Sites URL
