Hi,
I am new. I halfway know what I am doing. Everywhere else that I hosted my domains would have a button that I clicked that would take me to the WP Dashboard, and I did enter petsguideusa.com/wp_admin and it took me to a parked page that said my domain is expired, which it isnât, but I am assuming that is from namecheap where I had my former DNS nameservers.
I have a blog theme that I edit and install on my WordPress sites, I know what to do from the dashboard, but I have no clue how to get to the WP Dashboard here. I realize I may look like an idiot for not knowing this & I am, so please be patient with meâ:innocent:I am in tears & feel like a moron .
OK, I will look into the DNS resolver, but I was able to add the CNAME records and I was getting a green check that stated the Infinity Free name servers were being picked up. I noticed the red check next to the IP address but I could not find an answer to this issue.
I will work on this shortly and post back any results I get.
Thanks for your reply.
Patti
OK, I know I am an idiot. Sorry. I do know the basics, but I donât know the basics of how to get to the cmd prompt of any of my servers. I have looked throughout the help documentation. I understand command prompts and what I need to do once I get there, but there is nothing that tells me how to get to the command prompt of any of my hosted domain âserversâ
I do love InifintyFree and I desperately needed this service, but there are very basic instructions that are missing. I am not blowing my own horn cause this makes me look even more stupid, but as a former computer professor this is a very common issue with tech instructions, lack of intuitive or totally missing steps.
So, please, PLEASE tell me the basic step of how to get to wherever I need to be in order to get to the command prompt of my servers.
Do you mean a terminal? Iâm sorry, but InfinityFree does not offer terminal, shell, or SSH access for security reasons. Running commands through PHP is also blocked.
What are you trying to use a terminal for, though? If you can do it on InfinityFree, you can do it using the client areaâs GUI without needing a terminal or command prompt.
OK by the time I finished scouring the help files my DNS cache updated, I guess, as I have green IP addresses & SSL is installed on all my domains except for petsguideUSA dot com, though that may not be the case by the time this is read.
However, I am still in the same place, how do I get to the Wordpress Dashboard?
I apologize but I am used to clicking on a domain name and being taken to the dashboard. If I enter domainname.com/wp-admin I get a 404 page.
Again, as I detailed in my last post, there needs to be the very basic step-by-step instructions. It is great to know that I need to enter the command to flush my ip settings, but it does me no good if I donât know how to get to the command line for my domain servers.
Likewise, how do I manage Wordpress if I have no idea how to get to the dashboard? There is no link for any of my domains & the url that should take me there isnât, though I have DNS, IP addresses & SSL all showing green checkboxes.
Youâre supposed to run that on your computer, not our server. Clearing DNS cache is only helpful if you are unable to access your website because computer may have old data that make it connect to a wrong IP address. Thatâs a problem on your end, not a problem with your website.
Are you referring to the DNS Status card in the client area? If so, please note that:
The DNS Status card just shown the DNS settings that are detected on our end. If you know the settings are correct and your website is working, you can safely ignore whatâs shown there.
The cache on the status check is quite short lived (only a few minutes) to prevent unnecessary server load.
That check is mainly useful when using your own nameservers, because sometimes people only add the CNAME record and assume thatâs all they need. The DNS Status card then shows that something is missing.
So there really isnât any need to clear it, because it doesnât affect your ability to access your website.
OK, sorry I thought that was what was being stated, but that confused me as to why my computerâs DNS would matter to InfinityFree servers, but since youâre telling me that is the case, I will do so in the future if needed.
Overthinking on my end- always the worst
Thanks so much!
I do appreciate your kindness, assistance & patience.
Ok, I found the access point to get to the WP Dashboard. I never thought to go back into the installer, but now I have it figured out.
If someone sees this and tells me how to submit tech writing, I will write up detailed steps to installation and management access as others may need help in the future.
I am not insulting Infinity Free or anyone, it is very, very, very common for tech writing to be less than what is needed. As a former computer professor and tech writer I have seen less than what is usually needed instructions more time than not.
So, please let me know who I can send the steps to or where I can submit them and I will write up an intro step-by-step and send in.
