“maintenance is underway on your server you will see your site offline until the work has completed”
Any idea how long does the maintenance last. This is my 3rd day and still the website is down.
In the past, Admin has said outages range from like 15 minutes to a week. I found the upper bound odd here because a hosting company with claimed 99.9% uptime should never have a week long outage, but his inclusion of it told me he’d seen outages that last that long. I think if they took the time to put that message in our cPanel portal, they probably expected it would last awhile, so towards the upper range of the ‘usual outage duration.’
I don’t want to think it’ll be a week, but information is so limited here, you’ll never find anyone with any authority give a timeline, so this is all I’ve been able to infer from various conversations and my own reasoning, so thought I’d add it.
Well, this is free hosting, and iFastNet (InfinityFree’s provider) enjoys (it seams like it sometimes) testing risky upgrades on the free servers, so they know if it will work for their paid servers. These upgrades don’t always go as planned, and we experience these large outages, waiting for iFastNet to fix what they messed up (Sometimes they can do it quickly, sometimes not).
Sadly. See above explanation.
iFastNet does not seam to like communicating with us do they….
Basically, free hosting servers are used as the testing servers for iFastNet (So they can give there paying customers the premium service), and sometimes the upgrades don’t work. And that is why we always recommend having backups, as sometimes these upgrades can delete or corrupt files. Whenever these things happen (too often if you ask me, but they are usually only a day or two, not this long ), we just have to wait it out and hope that iFatNet knows how to fix it.
That was a pretty good explanation @DeadDuck!
Yeah, my intention was to buy premium when my website grew (it had hit 20% Daily Hits in its first 3 weeks, so… I was anticipating this would be necessary sooner or later), but … I don’t buy the promise of better hosting w/ premium, personally. I’ve moved my website elsewhere. I’ll still be around and if things get better here I might come back, but as is I’d be spending money on a promise, and that’s just not something I do, personally.
I do think that is the main downfall of doing it this way. I have the same opinion, once I get a log of moves, I upgrade. But I kind of think If iFastNet treats our servers bad, how to they treat the premium ones? I know they treat them better, but still… it makes me think if will have issues when I upgrade too
Yea I was thinking the same. Wanted to upgrade to premium later on but the sudden server being down without any prior alerts and for so long makes me rethink that.
To be honest, me neither.
I guess I’ve been fortunate enough since I never had these problems that others have been reporting in the forums for the past months. Nevertheless, because of this, I’ve decided to host my websites that need a reliable server in another provider rather than iFastNet.
I just use this hosting to host my Publii static site. It has great performance and speed and is mainly used for testing.
Just an update its the 5th day today and I am still waiting hoping that 1 week should be enough time for them.
“Uptime is our main priority, which is why we can proudly say we offer 99.9% uptime.” - Meanwhile they should rephrase the following found on their home page to not applicable for free hosting users.
This early happens for this long, but I doubt the 99.99 is correct. It’s probably more like 90%. Also, these outages don’t effect everyone, just an unlucky few.
