I have Dell Inspiron 7591 that’s my model, the last battery lasted 3 years

3 years is pretty good, I hope your new battery lasts well

that laptop is one of the nicer ones to change a battery, just a few simple steps

  • remove the bottom panel screws and panel
  • carefully remove the battery connector from the socket on the motherboard
  • remove the battery screws and battery
  • pop in the new battery and screws
  • plug in the new battery cable to the motherboard
  • put the bottom panel on (no screws yet) and test to make sure its working
  • if all is good then screw the bottom panel

I recently changed a battery for a customer with a gaming laptop that that was a real headache

I had to disassemble the whole laptop to pieces because the battery was buried inside :frowning:

Oh one more point I forgot to say

Some laptops (im not sure if this applies to this model) you find that after changing the battery and switching on you just get a black screen !

This can look like something is wrong but don’t panic as a lot of laptops will show a black screen for maybe a minute while they reconfigure themselves but eventually you should see the usual boot logo appear

This has caught me out a few times especially on laptops that have no power leds

I did not get a black screen

Don’t you miss those times when removing the battery was as simple as pulling two latches at the bottom and the battery popped out?

I’ve got a 10 year old laptop that has one slider switch for battery release!

I had Asus laptops and they broke really easily, and even on warranty they didn’t won’t to repair them so I move to Dell, My Dell works like new again

I’ve got a toshiba L50-b from around 2014, bought it 2nd hand for less than £50
It still has the original battery and it still runs for about 3 hours on battery power

I got really lucky

It looks just like this but with Linux Mint instead

oh and mine now has a black trackpad as the original white one de-laminated during the hot weather and had to be replaced

Doesn’t that mean you’ll also get the Ubuntu snap stuffs?
Why not LMDE :stuck_out_tongue:

snap is not installed and is disabled in linux mint but you could enable it if you’re feeling dangerous :stuck_out_tongue:

Returning on topic, the last laptop I had before I switched to a MacBook was a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBD from around 2015, which my dad now uses; probably a laptop made when changing the battery pack was a bit harder than just releasing a lever.

I surely miss the times where I had to release a lever to unmount the battery pack (but I also had two other laptops from Acer which had that system as well)…

My own laptop is a 12 year old Samsung Chronos, Core I5 etc.

Still got the original battery that lasts about 3-4 hours with moderate use.

Still running Windows 7 - Can’t even remember when that was last updated.

It does everything I need. Just hope it doesn’t expire before I do

At least with these laptops the battery isn’t glued in like a macbook :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I hate those things. Done so many and its never easy, Isopropyl alcohol, plastic pry tool and a lot of hard work :frowning:

How I wished I had a Commodore 64 and still had an old CRT as well…

Of course Apple has to use super-strong adhesives to keep batteries safe!
