Galaxip.epizy.com/misc ... not showing files

Hi,

I have a strange issue with my hosting at galaxip.epizy.com, i have a directory called misc where I try out various stuff im working on galaxip.epizy.com/misc

currently there is 1 file uploaded to this directory called header.html which shows as uploaded from my ftp client (filezilla) and I can run the file using the url galaxip.epizy.com/misc/header.html

but when I visit galaxip.epizy.com/misc it does not show up and the directory listing is blank

can I fix this issue ?

thanks

I’m sorry, but what would you like to see instead? Would you like to see the directory listing with the header.html being listed there? Or would like to see something else?

yes I would like to see the directory listing with my test files there so i can click them for quick easy testing

i added a .htaccess file with Options +Indexes but it didnt help as there still shows a blank directory listing

I have other directory that does show the file content so i dont understand why this one doesnt behave the same way ??? some weird server crazyiness ???

Our servers do hide some files and directories by default. This is usually done for security reasons, to prevent direct access to files which should not be directly accessed.

It’s not unlikely that header.html was hidden for that same reason. Normally, header.html could be a shared header file containing HTML included into other pages, which is not something you would want people to access directly.

admin thanks for your reply this is very interesting

going on what you have just said I decided to rename header.html to test.html and sure enough it now shows in directory list at galaxip.epizy.com/misc

so your servers are filtering some file names from being displayed

do you have a list of which names cannot be shown in the directory list ? or better still is there a way to turn this feature off ?

thanks

I’m sorry, but I don’t have an official list of file names or patterns which are hidden. I know that there is such a system in place, but iFastNet built and maintained it, so I don’t know many of the details of this feature, including the exact set of names and patterns which are being blocked.

I also don’t know why this feature was built to begin with or how much it actually adds in terms of security. But I do know that there is no option to turn this feature off.
