can i get a free domain? i mean just the domain.
i have a web server that can be accessed with a public IP, but i need a domain to create an ssl. is that possible?
so i will use the resources i have for the web because all i need is a domain.
No, it isn’t unfortunately. InfinityFree does own their domains.
Alternatives? You could own your domain name on InfinityFree, and upgrade to iFastNet, or get a cheap oo.gd domain.
There are 2 that I know of that are free:
nic.eu.org
- you can get free eu.org domains, but the waiting time is really long
nic.ua
- you can get free pp.ua domains. But you need a credit card to verify your identity.
Personally I have a few pp.ua domains.
We provide free subdomains, but they can only be used with our web hosting. Hosting them elsewhere is not allowed or possible.
If you want a free domain to use elsewhere, probably a free subdomain from another provider will do. freedns.afraid.org provides many domains like that (and has a generally more smooth process than nic.eu.org or pp.ua). A Dynamic DNS service could also do the trick.
Finally, some SSL providers allow you to actually get an SSL certificate for an IP address instead of a domain name. I think ZeroSSL may have this, but I’m not sure.
I didn’t realise they were still about thats really good to know
I’ve used https://www.noip.com/ in the past for my game server
They are also good but you need to login one a month to keep the domain name active
